Izabella is much more appealing as herself (to me) than she ever was as Natalya.
I agree, she is smokin hot. Do a google search and prove me wrong. In GoldenEye she really comes off as a "plain Jane"

Well it seemed like Izabella's hair was always messy in GoldenEye but at least she actually looked good as a redhead. Unlike Kirsten Dunst *cough cough Mary Jane cough Spider-Man Trilogy cough* but I suppose that's another story for another time.

Anyway besides her messy hair the only thing that bothered me about Izabella in GoldenEye was that ugly black mole on her face, I just wanted to tear that damn mole off! X-(

Too bad Brozzer never got the chance to do what Craig's done.

I think Pierce Brosnan has had one good Bond film (GoldenEye) and that's it

I enjoyed all of the Brosnan Bonds---I even think the first half of DAD might be some of his best work in the role---but IMRO GE was definitely his best...and they got less good, overall, as they went along. Not Brozzer's fault, though.

^I know I don't blame Brosnan but I do blame the writers, the directors and the studio though.

So guys, since the other thread was closed, we can carry on here.

I much prefer GE because I find it more enjoyable to watch and I much prefer Brosnan to Craig as 007. It should be noted that CR is my least fave of the Craig 007 films.

But yeah, I will admit that CR is a very well-made film, probably more so than GE.

Like I said in the closed thread, objectively speaking CR is the better film, but subjectively GE is just more fun to watch. Plus, the idea of Bond being a rookie OO in his late thirties, combined with the building sinking sequence just irks me a bit.

    Interesting that this has been restarted when I've dug up my login details -{

The more I think about this I find that there are some pretty big similarities between my preferences from both of the films, but GE slightly edges out.

Overtime I've found that I've gone off CR, mostly because of the love story. While the story is important to the whole Bond-world, I find that the dialogue is a bit heavy handed and I don't actually enjoy the relationship between Bond/Vesper.

I find both films incredibly similar in their structure. The 1st/2nd acts are awesome; in GE all the way up until Bond gets into the lair in Cuba and CR up until the end of the poker game. After that, I find both movies fall off.

I don't find GE markedly better, but I prefer it.

I was certainly extremely excited to see each of them---given the change of lead actor and time since the previous film (in particular the gap between LTK and GE, which was difficult to bear)---but I have to give Craig and CR the nod, ten times out of ten. GE holds up fairly well, but I really didn't enjoy the score. And CR did what GE didn't: it reset the game pieces on the board.

That could be a reason why I don't enjoy CR as much. I find the "resetting" in CR/QOS/Skyfall to be a touch frustrating. I like how GE is just straight into it.

Doesn't help that I like DC the least out of all Bonds :# but before you bite my head off, he's still 95% ;)

I totally understand about frustration with the reboot, but IMHO it was necessary for the health of the franchise. With DAD, Eon had formula'd itself into mediocrity. It's a challenge they will face again, post-Craig.

And I never bite anyone's head off over Bond actor preference. Some of my best friends are Roger Moore fans {:) :D

Let me put it this way. I still find it hard to believe that the same man is behind both movies, which only goes to show how important a great script is. A great director can't save a bad script, but an average director can do wonders with a solid script.

LOL, ALL Bond movies have script faults IMO! Two of my personal favourite Bond movies HAD no real scripts to work with because of writer's strikes (LTK & QOS).

^ Nice to find someone who rates QoS!

GE script problems: Sean Bean's character, just seems weak and petty. Pretty far fetched really. Movie is boring after Bond enters the lair.

CR: dialogue between Vesper/Bond - that's glaring too.

Casino Royale is more cohesive and is more unique compared to other Bond movies.

I see no one has mentioned Xenia Onatopp as being a drawback to Golden Eye. I know that there is a tradition of exaggerated femme fatales but her character and name are so cartoonish, that they could be part of an Austin Powers movies.

I like Golden Eye quite a bit (I think it's the best of Pierce's films) but I think Casino Royale is the better film. Craig shows a wider range of acting (the writing is part of it) and it follows the Fleming novel quite well, better than most of the films (other than the switch to Hold 'Em Poker). Golden Eye is weaker in Bond's character development IMHO. I also like the casting of the secondary characters better in Casino Royale.

BTW, I consider Casino Royale my favourite Bond film although my favourite Bond is Timothy Dalton, followed by Connery, then Daniel Craig. :)

Though LTK isn't one of my favourite Bond films, there's nothing seriously wrong with it other than Timothy Dalton's wardrobe. MGW did a really good job on the script. It's cohesive and the dialogue is solid. Now that I think about it, QoS doesn't really have script problems. Its biggest problem is the direction.

Both GE and CR have some terrible dialogue. Oddly, the films made during the writers' strike didn't have that problem.

I agree with you on this character and never cared for her either. There are a lot of things in GoldenEye that poke fun at the Bond series, but they don't fit with the dark tone of the film.

Without a doubt, Casino Royale is the superior film. Better looking, better scripted, better acted, better sounding, and better directed. It is a grown-up, character-driven action film whereas Goldeneye is barely a film, by comparison amateurish and predictable.

Just to throw this in, but the movies came out 11 years apart, so production values might've changed in that span of time.

A tecnological revolution took place in the 90's and 2000's, which may have significantly affected how movies are made.

It's interesting to note that Campbell directed both of these movies, given that I significantly prefer GE to CR, however I will say that I think his direction was solid on both.

I think both films have their strong points, the reason why I think CR might be higher in an objective ranking is because it was arguably better at pulling off an ambitious set of ideas.

I will! Xenia Onatopp is an embarassment. She's cringeworthy. When she starts bonking that captain I tried not to look. A woman with zero chemistry. And your right - she was cartoonish. Natalya was a nag...

Those comparing Casino Royale to Goldeneye? Are they for real? Its like comparing Dickens to the Mr Men books. My main complaint about Goldeneye is that we went backwards after the Dalton years. After the debacle of DAD they actually picked it up and made something new

Not bad for a series that was nearly fifty years old...

Okay, I'm just joining this thread, and all I have to say is both of these films saved the Bond series, and both of them have their own merits. Goldeneye continued the traditional JB whereas Casino Royale re-invented the series. Both did what they did at the right time, and both are arguably the best for their actor's career as Bond. If I had to choose a favorite it would probably be CR but just remember, GE was the reason Bond movies didn't fade out completely after the 80s. Oh and I happen to like the name Xenia Onayopp. I mean wasn't the name Pussy Galore (favorite Bond girl BTW) Just as, if not more "obvious" than that one? Just sayin.

not to turn this into a discussion thread about Trevelyan but he was everything Bond was (apart from being a villain) but the two were very alike. And I have to disagree, 006 was way more charismatic than many other villains!

We're talking EON Bond films here, which are arguably all well-made anyway.

Each of them has a case for and against it.

Let's just bear that in mind.
