I recently picked up a Droid X. Its an fantastic phone. Just put a copy of my FRWL dvd on the phone and have got to say it looks great on the big Droid X screen.

If I may ask, what programs are you using to rip the DVD and convert it to play on the phone?
First I tried handbreak with various different settings and could never get a good quality video then I came across DVD Catalyst. They have a free no frills version and various steps up from there ranging from $5 to $30 I believe. I used the free version for the Droid X and it worked perfectly.
I just put in the DVD and pressed start. After it had converted I just hooked my Droid up to the computer and dragged it over to my phone which was really nice after trying to figure out the proper settings for handbreak. 8-)

Q branch - Bond and Q in the foreground. various staff running about. Two dummies and a brick wall set up are in the background.
Q - Now remember 007, it has sat nav, android interface, back up battery including my own spec and - 500 hours extra talk time! I have disabled Facebook and Twitter for obvious reasons.
Bond - I take it you have added your own little additions Q? Speed dialing perhaps?

The touch screen is also acts as a DNA and palm scanner, the camera can take infra red or night shots, don't fiddle with the USB connection - it carries a variable and unstoppable disrupt and destroy computer virus, oh! and a new development. - See this red Bluetooth symbol? When active, it creates a local disrupter field, jamming audio and visual bugs and scanners. It has its own internal power source, range 20 feet. Now, the best bit. Here take this, this one is yours. (Q gives Bond the phone. He picks up a second one, with a casing of a different colour.)
Bond - Ah here we go, the party piece.
(Q makes a face, but starts typing on the display)
Q - send a text to the phone itself - the detonation code is your double oh number, followed by hash then 001. Send like this.
(He presses a button)
Q - Then throw like this. (Q thows the phone - when it arcs past the dummies it gives a targeted camera flash burst as well as smoke at both , before it lands near the brick wall)
Bond - (Disappointed) Its a knock out Gas and flash grenade? Q thats hardly original, even if it does use the face recognition!
Q - You never learn 007. Duck and cover!
There is a pregnant pause. The gas dissipates... BOOM!
The room shudders, dust settles, and where the wall was, is a massive crater gouged out of the floor. The dummies are floored nearby, but both are still in one piece. The crater is quietly smoking while lights are gently swinging from the ceiling.
Q - (Grinning brightly) The C4 reacted with the add on power source better than I had anticipated! Excellent.
A deskphone rings. - An assistant answers it, their eyes go wide, and then they dash over. They whisper something to Q.
Bond - Good vibrations?
Q - Not exactly. M wants to see me, the detonation set off the bomb alert upstairs. I forgot the Prime Minister is in this afternoon's security meeting....
Nice! Hopefully they do something like this in the next one. I'm really starting to miss Q.

Mmmm, well that is not going to happen. Mobiles are here to last - people are using them ALL the time, it would be stupid to think that a person of Bonds capabilities wouldn't use this technology to his advantage - and let's face it, the technology is moving quickly.
My parents are of the generation where they HATE all types of 'mobile' connectivity. They don't even know how to txt - and they get so impatient if I, God forbid get a txt from a friend when they are staying.... but it's the way of the times.... yes, I believe people are now communicating via phone too much, instead ofwith each other (which is not necessarily a good thing) - but the last two Bond films have ONLY had mobiles as it's magic gadget - and I think that is pretty cool.
I love my phone - and my next one will be the htc Desire....the Sony Erricsson Xperia just has too many issues - and it's plasticy feel is a real turn off.... and the samsung (although has very good reviews) just doesn't quite cut it for me.
I am looking forward to seeing which phone he will be using next.... a smart phone for sure.

I think a Nokia N8 design with a better OS might be a strong Bond phone. They have a nice black/dark gray version. Maybe Nokia will put Windows Phone 7 OS on the N8 or successor.

I almost feel sorry for the Bond producers with the glaring product placement. I just don't believe that Bond would use Sony Erickson Esp with both the IPhone and the HTC out there, far less the other characters.
My folks are the same - they see the mobile as a technological ball and chain, an unwanted tool of modern life. I must admit, I feel a similar way about Facebook and Twitter, and will never use them. As long as Bond can use tech that is useful and plausible I will be happy. - M's Tetris wall and ITable in QOS was eye-rollingly poor.

It's strange but I always use the speaker on my phone or a headset. I've never put a cell phone close to my face. Maybe it's the whole classic Star Trek influence...I don't get using a case or protector for the iPhone (or others) especially the iPhone 4 because that side metal part is what makes the design cool. It's bad enough almost all smartphones look the same.

If you wanna be realistic about this, Bond would probably be issued a rather boring Blackberry. The Blackberry security model is what makes it a favorite standard-issue phone for both governments and corporations alike. They can be managed or wiped clean by the home office, fully encrypted, and configured to self-destruct if the wrong device password is entered a set number of times (the phone wipes itself clean of data).

I agree, SpectreBlofeld - considering how relatively easy it is to hack most smartphones, RIM's Blackberry would be the most secure candidate out of what's commercially available, and from what I know RIM has no access to encrypted data that's transmitted over phones on their network. I'd imagine that MI-6 would be really strict with what apps could be downloaded, which would restrict the vast majority of smartphones like the iPhone or Android OS phones.

i think this Bang and Olufsen one. Looks sufficiently clunky, retro and yet shiny to be in a Bond film.
But the flip ness he would probably break the screen with. We've all been there back in the day! Bond with a broken screen would be sending crazy misspelt texts to all his contacts. not ideal.
It will be for sure a Sony Ericsson after the information that Sony Pictures are on the board. The question is, if Bond will go with a "standard" phone like the k800i or the c902, or will they take one of the new XPERIAs. There is still some time, but i think there was a tip about 5 new Sony Ericsson prototypes which came from Japan in the mid 2008, later they were all used in Quantum of Solace, so the situation can be very similar. I bet Bond will go with a traditional cell phone.
