    On the assumption Cumberbatch IS out, and regardless of whether Freeman choses to follow - and I'd assume he would - I wonder whether the Beeb wouldn't consider recasting?

    Holmes has proved resilient enough to survive a number of incarnations and, if the Moffat and Gatiss are still with the project, it might be worth a go. And, as been pointed out, it is huge international hit, critically and financially, for Auntie...

    But, hey, as has been pointed out, we'll have had 9 great films to watch repeatedly.

    AND ELEMENTARY has been renewed for a second series so 'tis not all doom and gloom.

    Well I'm available to take over, although they'll have to
    let out Cumberbatch's coat quite a bit to fit. :D
    along with the second series of Elementary ( I'll be
    ordering the Box set of it soon ). Robert Downey, Jr. in
    a recent interview strongly hinted at a Third Movie. -{

    I hope the Miller example - that with good writing and great acting the shadow of Cumberbatch CAN be overcome - encourages Moffat and Gatiss to give it ago sans Benny and Martin AND shows any leading actor that it CAN be done.

    There is a huge demand for top quality Holmes. And there is even "demand" for Downey's version, too... ;)

    So I guess these comments are what Sherlock's executive producer said not to count as an announcement right now:

    Just a thought....

    SUPPOSE Benedict Cumberbatch can't do series 4 (tragic, but not impossible)
    and
    SUPPOSE "Elementary" is cancelled after the second series (as above)

    then
    Jonny Lee Miller would be available to star in "Sherlock" series 4.....

    Doesn't rule out more SHERLOCK's, does he, even as one-offs?

    The advantage of occasional, off-the-cuff returns at least means that quality and enthusiasm are likely to be maintained, but will this satisfy the Beeb's need for product, and profit????
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
    I think both Cumberbatch and Freeman Love the series and if they can
    They'll keep doing them. I too would be happy with a couple of Specials
    a year. -{

    And bridges are best not burned just in case Hollywood careers do not take off.

    I certainly see DC and MF making every attempt possible to work with BBC in keeping SHERLOCK going, however slowly.

    Benedict Cumberbatch features in this Saturday's (4th May) TV Magazine, which comes with The Sun newspaper. In the preview Cumberbatch is quoted: "I definitely want my Daniel Craig moment!"

    Much as I like Cumberbatch, I think he'd make a Good villain,
    But I can't see him as Bond.

    On this day in 1891, Sherlock Holmes fell to his apparent death at the Reichenbach Falls, as depicted in the pages of ‘The Final Problem’.

    Thanks for noting the anniversary, there. Bond had a similar experience at the end of Fleming's FRWL, I believe.
