Wonder if this is as a result of Miller's well-received Holmes in SHERLOCK's absence in 2013? Sadly, the promise of THAT series seems to be waning in series 2
Agree with TP that there was plenty of humour and with Sir Miles that it was really only a "set up" episode; does anyone really care how he survived the fall, or understand how he did it anyway even now???? Holmes is back and the game is afoot again. But we knew that already, didn't we?
I think they have to be careful with the level of humour though; it verged on the self-reverential and self-spoofing - a bit too much more and we're in the world of self-parody and there's no reason why SHERLOCK should end up up its own MOONRAKER.
But, again as Miles says, it is a shame there are only two more (though considering the enormity of the project that's perfectly understandable). And, of course, often less is more...
And am I the only one who felt that Moff-Gattis were VERRRRYYYY deliberately channelling SKYFALL???????
As Sir miles has said, this was a set up episode. So I think there was more humor in it
I don't think that will carry on at the same level. Characters have to be introduced, and
how he faked his death explained etc.
Agreed it is a shame British TV is so short of funds that quality programs get so short
a run, while cheap crap runs for months.

The Tube scenes were filmed in the same place. The black grill/door where Holmes and Watson enter the rail tunnel was the same one where Bond exited and stepped out into the Tube crowd.
