I saw this Aqua Terra online and I'm questioning its authenticity.
    What do you think?

It's a fake that particular model shouldn't have a rhohidrium frame around the date window, also the lettering should read Co axial chronometer 15000 gauss. If those details were correct it would difficult to tell from that picture. Also the strap looks non high end

Cape cod can be abrasive if you use a machine.
With the wrist there is no risk.
Are we talking about the Cape cod polishing cloth?

To be exact: anything that polishes metal, removes material, even when it happens through chemical reaction, that is why you see your polishing cloth turning black.

Anything that can be polished is susceptible to wear. You see this quite well when sharpening knives, you can strop a knife on a piece of white paper to remove a burr even if that knife has a blade from "hard wearing steel" like D2. And you would easily think that regular printing paper would never harm a knife blade with HRC 60-62!

    Exactly right:

Every scratch that you buff out means that you remove the surrounding material to the depth of the scratch - unless you add material by welding.

While this of course is all very accurate there are degrees of polishing, the recent damage to my watch was to the outside edge of the bezel at between the 5 and 10 markers which means when my bezel is set with the triangle at 12 the damage makes it appear as though in missing 2 knurles. this isn't a deep scratch it's just taken off the polished finish, I've now republished the area so unless looking incredibly closely with a loupe no damage is apparent and I havnt over polished to the extent that has rounded off or delved into the metal. I never have my watches polished at service and I don't think I would ever Polish the case of any watch. The black you see on a cloth when polishing metal is indeed particles but also oxidation being removed, a courser abrasive will result in a darker thicker blackness appearing much quicker, and I'd never use anything harsher than the powders I've previously mentioned. Again it all depends how much character you are happy to have on your watch. I don't mind a worn look and always buff as opposed to Polish.

    @ CC

My remarks where not directed against you - just a general remark.
My first Rolex, I polished out every single scratch - inly after many years, I realized that that was and still is wrong ;)

I knew that Higgins, I just felt I should clarify my position, as you don't know who reads this thread and I wouldn't want someone setting about their watch with something that would cause damage or overpolishing, bezels, bracelets and clasps can be replaced quite easily but cases are a different matter. I'd hate to think I've put out misleading posts. {[]

I'm trying to track down either of the watches from Casino Royale. I have one Omega dealer searching , and the others I've called had nothing but new watches. Can anyone give me any ideas, or does anyone know where I might find either of the watches?
    thanks!

Do you mean either the smp with 2500 movement or the po XL? You could do worse than join the Omega forum and put out request.

You'd be better off with the one in the use surely? It's in better condition comes with all paperwork work is from a seller with more sales reviews
And being us based you'd have no duty to pay.
I personally wouldn't be put off by no box or papers but that's just me, I've bought from police auctions where there hasn't been any papers, I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if the fakers aren't producing papers these days??
What I'd advise is if buying from one of the sales platforms like Chrono24 you need to research the seller as much as the watch, I'm sure the vast majority are honest sellers but you can't be too careful. With regard the po have you considered buying one like Cheverian has just got and swapping out the bracelet for a rubber strap?

Always happy to help, I'm no expert either, I've just got a bit of experience buying watches for my own collection. I'm sure you'll find what you want soon and I look forward to hearing how you get on, keep us informed -{ there are quite a lot of watch enthusiasts and very experienced buyers and collectors here at ajb so any questions you have I'm sure will be quickly answered.

I just purchased the rubber strap with that in mind! It gives me a facsimile of the CR Planet Ocean in a size that fits my wrist.

Depending on your wrist size, James Boldman, you might want to consider the 2201.50 and buy a rubber strap. The fit of a watch is just as important as the fit of a suit.

+1 Good advice I wanted the P.O. from CR but the size just did not suit me so went for 42mm PO from QOS and purchased OEM rubber to give 2 watches for price of one. 45mm is not for everyone and I would always say for the price difference retail buy a watch with steel bracelet and purchase OEM rubber separately. The cost of buying the bracelet or strap seperately is twice the price ie Rubber £200 and bracelet £400 there will be times when Steel is preferable over Rubber when wearing like more formal occasions (plus steel will last longer normally renew my Rubber every 4 years or so after 4 terms of constant summer wear)

Good luck some great advice here and enjoy the fun of the search!

    Cheers :007)
P.S I also have bought watches without papers after all you don’t wear those and you can get a good price, only real impact is resale down the line if you ever sell (you can always order a new set of cards from Omega though not cheap)
My name is Bond, Basildon Bond - I have letters after my name!

I love this model too, but personally i find this model with the SS bracelet on a bit too heavy.
For this reason, I wear it with a NATO band.
