Both are blonde sociopaths who like to kill with items on hand and wear Speedos. No doubt Nercros is a direct reference to Grant, but that does not make him bad. You just have to watch TLD knowing no one will have the "badassness" of Grant.

It would be OK if Necros was the first Grant rip off, but start counting...YOLT,FYEO,TLD,DAD...off the top of my head. The character is correct in the movie, it's just the "another tall, muscular blonde" henchman thing. Shows little imagination.

Even if that's true, I'd say Necros is the best of the lot since Grant.

That's the only reason. Otherwise Andreas Wisniewski is correct as henchman.

I do not think Kara is bland. She is much more of a normal person than many of the other bond girls (ie she is not a spy, sniper, geologist etc.) Maryan D'Abo does a really good job of playing a young 20 some who is smitten (not in love) with a powerful man. She is bad ass in her own way. She charges off after James in the desert when the men folk are sitting around pondering their next move. She also has the gull to try and pull one over on the Soviet Union.

You have many supporters for that point of view and I'm probably the outlier. To me, it's not the fact that Kara is a more "normal person" than the typical Bond Girl that makes her bland. I think Natalya Simonova in Goldeneye is a similarly "normal" woman, but for whatever reason she has more of a lasting impact on me than Kara. Maybe it's just the way the character of Kara is written and/or performed, but for me she is one of the few weak spots in TLD.

I didn't buy Natalya, whereas Kara is more believable. Definitely Maryan D'Abo plays "normal" better than Izabella Scorupco. Basically the opposite of your post.

I didn't buy Natalya as well. All she does is nag. I dont buy Natalya's skills as well.

Kara seemed much more real. She is played the entire time by everyone until she gets to Afghanistan. She is played by Bond, Koskov and the KGB.

Exactly my point. Computer freaks are hipsters like Boris, or Jabba the hutt-like creatures, not Victoria's Secret models.

On the other hand, I can perfectly imagine a russian cellist looking and behaving like Kara.

Natalya is eye candy. Kara is a character.

And just because she is power-hot does not mean that Natalya is not a character.

Well, to be fair, Natalya had a pretty great (albeit nagging) character BESIDES the Victoria's Secret bod, but yeah, I loved Kara's real, girl-next-door (who's still pretty hot) look. I also loved watching her character evolve; that was one of the more interesting parts of the film IMO.

Also just because you are good looking does not mean you are not good with computers. My mom was a model and when she retired from that she became a computer programmer at the White House and then with the DOD. Just saying.

I'm not saying it can't happen. Only that generally, when one thinks of a computer specialist, you tend to think of Boris or otherwise, not a model type girl. Just saying.

Anyway, I understand it's a Bond film. It has to have eye candy. Spies are as grey as possible and not call attention to themselves, which Pierce Brosnan did. He was eye candy too.
