Bond still using ppk

Do you know if Bond will be using the Walther ppk again?

I don't think there is anything official yet...

In the snow scenes he has something different, but that could be a pick-up from a bad guy as we see him in the short video that was released put a wrist lock on the bad guy and take his gun.

I think what's most important is that the gun is something that can easily be concealed. That's why I really didn't like the P99 for Bond. However, Bond's clothes are now too tight to conceal anything!

I completely agree about concealability; the P99 was just silly for a spy. Personally I agree about the too tight suits, but I'm certainly no fashion guru. Leiter actually mentions in Dr No that Bonds suit is measured to hide the butt of his gun and Bond replies it was done in Saville Row. Obviously Tom Ford didn't train there!

I look at the PPK as a defensive/personal protection weapon.....easily concealed and effective from close range and then some in the hands of a marksman/trained killer like Bond. If Bond is going on the offensive then he uses something heavier depending on the job. I always pictured Bond carrying the PPK, a P-99 in the glovebox of his service issue car along with a good all around assault rifle in the trunk/boot with a scope just in case he needs to remove someone from distance on short notice. Any suggestions for the assault rifle? I was thinking a "bullpup" style rifle would make sense.....rifle length barrel in a submachine gun size package.

Certainly not the L85 (SA80) probably something like the HK416 or Sig516 both AR based but a lot better made .

My bad.... after doing a bit of research the L85 (SA80) is not considered a particularly good weapon. However there apparently are other Bullpup style rifles that are better but I'll cede to those with much more knowledge on this one for sure. But an automatic rifle hidden in the trunk/boot would make sense IMO.

The current spec SA80 is fine. All the bad mouthing came from when it was first issued. It's pretty much a different weapon from that version now, and came at great cost.

Perhaps a suppressed FN P90? although not really an "assault rifle" per-se.

Or the H&K UMP as seen at the end of Casino Royale (it has a folding stock too I think).

Or even a H&K MP7.

Although not "assault rifles" they are easily concealable and provide more firepower than a pistol.

If he wanted something Bullpup to really get someone at a distance how about the Walther WA2000 as used in The Living Daylights, a bit dated now though.

I could not agree more as both a die hard James Bond fan and a firearms aficionado.

Continuing on from my last post, The Walther WA 2000 as seen in The Living Daylights (1987) and many of the Activision James Bond video games is still a good sniper rifle from what I have heard about it. In particular the .300 Winchester Magnum version that Bond used in The Living Daylights is a good choice for taking out a target and making them stay out of commission permanently. The .300 Winchester Magnum round as I was told is even more powerful than a 7.62mm NATO round. Granted the cost of the WA 2000 kept it from selling well, but it is a good weapon regardless.

As for an automatic weapon (Sub-machine Gun or Assault Rifle) I would give Bond the H&K UMP 9mm from CR and QOS since it is one of the best submachine guns around and since H&K designed and produced it with many of the same features as the MP5 series, it is a robust and sound weapon. For something bigger I would go with an H&K 416 or 417(same rifle but chambered in .762mm NATO) for its controllability, rate of fire, and size when compared to a full size assault rifle like the famous M16.

PS: The latest teaser poster for SPECTRE shows also shows James Bond holding the Walther PPK.

The WA2000 is fantastic, and a real one-off, there is literally nothing else like it. Although I did not know it was the cost of it that kept it out of widespread use? I also did not know that the one from TLD was chambered for .300 Winchester Magnum, that is some serious ammo for a short range counter-sniper mission. If Bond had gone for the kill Kara would have been missing a head.

Only problem with the WA2000 is that it could be a bit unwieldy being so big. How about the PSG-1? that may suit Bond for if he needed to get at more than one target quickly.

Is it true that a scoped H&K 417 is that good it can almost be used as a sniper-rifle, or a counter-sniper rifle?

The scoped HK 517 is actually the most widespread sniper rifle in the Norwegian military. I understand it started when the special forces bought the rifle for the designated marksman role. The rest of the military were chosing the next assault rifle at the time and landed on the HK 416. Some say they thought it would be neat if the assault rifle and the sniper rifle were so simmular and if the gun is good enough for SF it's good enough for us! I understand many feel the 417 isn't a "pure blood" sniper rifle and isn't good enough for that role, but others argue it fills that role well out to 800 meters if match grade ammo is used and the training is good enough. Still, they are buying a 3.38 Lapua magnum rifle soon for longer ranges.
