Two Norwegian F-35 landed on a public road in Finland, quickly re-fueled while the engines were running and took off again. This is the first time any F-35 anywhere has done this and I thought only Swedish SAAB JAS 39 Grippen could use public roads as runways. I think the war in Ukraine has shown us how useful it can be to be able to decentralize the air force in wartime.
Yup! I know. We've been doing this road base thingy since the Winter war, although back then it was more common to fly from frozen lakes than from highways.

Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but I think it's possible you don't spend much time watching military recruitment ads. But the Norwegian ones have won awards and they're differnt from most such ads. I think they compare very favourably to most foreign military promos.
I have to admit I wore winter camouflage much like the US version back in the day, but soon Norway will get our Nordic Combat Uniforms and our soldiers will look cool!
NATO forces are training in Northern Norway right now, including Finland and Sweden. Today Sweden joined NATO, a direct result of Putin's brilliant strategy to push NATO away from Russia's borders. Congratulations!
The the land mine laying and setting up the bridge to blow up felt very familiar, but I'd say the new Norwegian recruitment ads are better!
That said, Finland has eared saying "I told you so" to most of Europe since you had the wisdom to maintain a military geared towards defending against an invasion.
You are right, no contest there. But: that movie is almost 3 decades old and was not ment as an ad, it was an educational (propaganda) film for conscripts just into service. Remember we don't need ads we have the law. 😉

I won't comment on Sunak's IQ level, but I think the UK is the wrong type of country to have conscription. Finland and Norway are the type of countries that needs conscription. We are large countries relative to the population, we border on an authoritarian and aggressive country and few of us are poor. We simply can't get enough of our population to sign on as professional soldiers to protect our territory.
The UK on the other hand is largely densly populated and has a large population, and an invasion of the country is unlikely. Around 20% of the population is poor and unemployment is too high, so there is ready pool for a professional military. I'm not saying everyone who's poor wants to work in the military or are qualified to do it, nor that everyone who sign up are poor. But I think it's easier to recruit many people to the military if economic options are few.

Naah... that's just a bunch of Swedish propaganda! They like to be soooo special!

Here's another one... Not quite Gripen ;) Could be Bond though!
-Mr Arlington Beech
The Swedes do like to brag about their "guerilla jet fighters", but I'm sure the Ukranians would love to get a squadron of JAS Grippens.
Five conscripts and an officer in two vehicles can refuel and service the plane on a motorway in the forrest, you know ....

We don't have many straight roads ... 😂
That's no way to think. You should not let yourself be restricted by external factors! 🤣

The captured Russian tank wasn't working - so the Ukrainian officer called tech support in Russia!
I was unsure where to post this video since David Niven has links to James Bond. In fact he even played Bond! But here it is:

I like the "Once upon a time" ad:
TRY for Forsvaret – «Det var en gang et land»
https://www.tv2.no/video/underholdning/try-for-forsvaret-det-var-en-gang-et-land/1721182/
Gullfisken 2022 ser du lørdag 5. februar kl. 22:15 på TV 2.
I've never translated an ad before, but you've got to start sometime ....
Once upon a time there was a country
where silence ruled and the mountains supplied the drama.
That was so beautiful the sun often refused to set,
while other times it redused to appear.
Once upon a time there was a country wher you could love whoever you wanted to,
Believe in what you wanted to.
Say what you wanted, although many in this country prefered to say as little as possible.
Once upon a time there was a country where the military parade was replaced with a childrens' parade.
often it was named the country in the world with the the most gender equality.
Once upon a time there was a country that had crisis of their own.
But the crisis didn't neccesserily lead to more division, but more unity.
(female soldier turns to the camera)
There IS a country!
Some fairy tales deserve to live forever.
THE DEFENCE FORCES: FOR EVERYTHING WE HAVE. FOR EVERYTHING WE ARE.
This one is subtitled in English and very good:
Nice! It's so fun to see these adverts and realize how much the Nordics have in common.
And now something completely different from Military Times: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pALPL7F7dTQ
Oh... and here are the latest members (very soon) of NATO in a joint ex in Finland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzmVwGz2-_o

Sunak says he will reinstate conscription in the UK if he's re-elected. Discuss! (without using offensive language or equipment)
He's an idiot

And you said you wouldn’t comment on the IQ 🤭🤣
😂
While in Scandinavia there's a lot of open air.
I should have clarified that Sunak, IMO, makes idiotic decisions. But then he is a politician. It goes with the territory.
