Skyfall of course did very well, me like most probably were open to seeing Mendes come back for another but would of preferred it for him not to direct back to back, some break would have been more productive.

I'm in agreement that it would be a step too far, although he is a good director, to bring him in for a third on the bounce.

It too would dampen my excitement. Someone fresh, different and a triumphant finish for Craig.

A bit of new year speculation, Kenneth Brannagh would like to play the villain opposite dc and James Norton odds on to play bond next.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

Wouldn't say no to either of those. Sir Ken as a plastic surgery enhanced Blofeld?

I pictured Kenneth Branagh as Hugo Drax when I was reading Moonraker, I think he'd make an excellent Bond villain! He did an excellent job narrating The Man With The Golden Gun. As far as the next 007, I'm still hoping it's Aiden Turner.

Not really giving any thought to who will be Bond after Craig...we don't even know who is directing the next one , the title or much else except Craig will be Bond and the release date.

Mrs Zaphod would be particularly pleased if Hemsworth were cast. Her views on Hardy were " oh no not another short one who's been beaten with the ugly stick" I think it's moot, as both are probably at stages in their career where Bond is not a sensible option. Hardy is great, but agree about the 'mumblecore' and the lack of sophistication.

The last Thor movie made too much money for Marvel/Disney to kill him off IMO.

Well, if we're going to speculate on who might replace Bond, I have a suggestion.
    Chris Hemsworth
He's got the physical look down pretty easily.
He's Australian but can pull off the British accent. Lazenby could do it, after all.
He's believable in action scenes, not just as THOR. I'd cite BLACKHAT as an example where he's asked to pull off 'straight' action, and he does so pretty successfully. In many ways, that movie is an audition for Bond.
He's blonde. That doesn't matter much but it makes for an easier transition off of Daniel Craig.
He's got fantastic comic timing. You may not think that that matters much in the grand scheme of things, but having that slightly comedic side opens up a possibility in terms of going for more of a Roger Moore take on the character. I'd personally be all in for that.
wouldn't that piss off that smug Loki?

Hemsworth, Evans, and Downey are all at (or near) the end of their contracts, and they'll be expensive to re-sign. Some of them (especially Evans) have expressed desires to move on. From what I understand, INFINITY WAR is going to clear the deck of some of the established players and make room for some of the newer characters, like Dr. Strange and Black Panther, to step up into higher profile roles in the Avengers. Kevin Feige has publicly stated that the Marvel Universe will look very different after INFINITY WAR, so I'd say that Chris and Chris may be gone (with Anthony Mackie, the Falcon, stepping in as the new Cap when all is said and done).

But who knows. As you said, RAGNAROK was an overwhelming critical and financial success. Anything is possible with Thor.

I hope neither is Bond but I would take Hiddleston over Hemsworth. He's not much of a leading man without his hammer. Atleast Hiddleston is an engaging actor regardless of the role.

I respectfully disagree regarding Hemsworth. Have you seen RUSH, by chance?

Regarding Hiddleston, I will agree that he's a good actor when placed in the right roles. I didn't care for him in KONG: SKULL ISLAND, but I thought that he was excellent in THE NIGHT MANAGER, and that mini-series kinda felt like his audition for the Bond gig.
RUSH is the only non-marvel film I thought he was good in.

its a good point Ragnarok was so successful MarvelDisneyEtc will probably throw any money necessary to keep Hemsworth in the role
but I never heard that the recurring Loki role was any conflict when Hiddleston's name was being thrown round as the next Bond
and remember Craig himself was prepared to play Blomkvist in a separate franchise while continuing to play Bond

still if they need to replace Thor they already got an out: the secret identity of Thor in the comics has actually been Jane Foster for the last three years, who is already in the films played by Natalie Portman (though I'd rather see more of hilarious Kat Dinnings than dull-as-dishwater Portman, especially now that Thor has gone full-on comedy)
    Cover_of_Thor_4-1.jpg

...it would be good if the next Bond actor was not committed to any competing franchises, might help get the films back on schedule

Sooooooooo, how about that James Bond discussion... :007)

Here's one for everyone...did you know that Instagram is an interesting investigative way to speculate better with Bond 25 staff? Fascinating to follow some of the traditional Bond crew members and their chatter. And a quite pleasant bunch to boot!

Is the new James Bond film ever going to be made? I saw some thing on television about a film which miss Barbara Broccoli had made. I think it was something about a film star who has a love affair with an young man. While they were talking about this film one of the people who helped to make it said that Barbara uses the money she makes from her big hit films to finance the films she really wants to make. I understand this to mean that she is not really interested in James Bond.
I think that the world for films is now in danger of leaving James Bond behind. If they can only make one film every few years then lots of other action heros will be there to take the place of James Bond? I know it is complicated to make any film but to have so many years gaps to me does not make sense. I think also that time is not on Daniel Craigs side, the longer the film is taken to make then will he not be seen on the screen as looking too old for James Bond? When I watched Spectre I thought he looked quite old in some of that film.

I still not have made my mind up if I like Spectre or not. It is not the worst James Bond film I have seen but I think that if they have all the time they are taking then they could do better than this. I hope that if they bother to make another film that it will be the best James Bond ever for not only the fans but also the people who just watch the films without being thee particular fans of James Bond.

You mean the film "Film stars don't die in Liverpool". Barbara Broccoli wants to make smaller, more personal movies like that one too, but this doesn't mean she doesn't care about Bond movies. Making James Bond movies is most of what she does and she'll continue to do so.

Shirley Bassey just turned 81 a couple of days ago. It'd sure be nice to get one more Bond theme song out of her.

I think that by the time the new James Bond film is being made Daniel Craig will be 81!

Number24, if making James Bond films is what most of what she does then she must only work just for a few hours every week! I think I read here at AJB that the James Bond films could be taken by another film maker? If this is so, and they would make them without the years space in between, it may be a good idea?

Yes its going to be made because its scheduled for release next year so they'll likely start filming this fall. As for the duration between films it certainly seems like 3-4 years is the new norm whether intentional or not, we'll see if that changes in the post-Craig era. And I don't think Craig's age is really an issue anymore, if it ever really was, because it seems like his tenure expires when Bond 25 is released next year so its pretty much a moot point now.

Mantis linked us to this interview with Barbara a couple of pages back: https://player.fm/series/awards-chatter-1401973/barbara-broccoli-film-stars-dont-die-in-liverpool
start approximately 40 minutes in. She talks about this same film a little (Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool ), as well as about the whole history of the Bond films and their future, I highly recommend it.
You might be right, Joshua, she makes the Bond movies because she inherited the job from her father. But she has really taken the films in a different direction since Casino Royale, and it may be that she is interested in making different types of films. Makes sense, she is not her father, but she knows filmmaking well. She begins the interview by reminiscing about being on the set of Dr No as a toddler. Imagine that! Imagine of that were you or me, as a toddler, watching them filming Sean Connery and Ursula Andress on the beach before anybody knew this series would be a hit. She speaks of the whole series with a lot of affection, and a sense of responsibility, and at the end assures us this is a family business and she is not selling the rights.
But still, I would not be surprised if she aspires to make different types of films. She has filmmaking in her DNA and may have lots of ideas of what can be done with film, not at all related to James Bond.

Question I've been meaning to ask: does anybody know the division of labour between her and her stepbrother, and how Michael's role has changed over the years? we don't seem to talk about him so much.

Babs and MJW have no real interest in taking Bond anywhere further. And that's been the case for a few years now. Who can blame them, Fleming's rights expire in a few years so anyone can make a Bond film. We are looking at the beginning of the end. I only hope that in this case Churchill's words win true

Here in the USA the rights won't expire until 2034. Be interesting to see if they start to churn out the film's at a faster pace as the expiration date nears.

This might be a silly question, but couldn't EON renew or extend the exclusive rights beyond 2034 with the Fleming Estate or is it one of those odd things where it becomes public domain? No matter what, EON would still hold the rights to the James Bond theme, gun barrel logo and other things that are under their own copyright that are unique to the Bond films.
