The only element making me think this could be a hint is the fact ATJ is absolutely not a crack. He's not the kind of actor who is very likely to win an Oscar in the four next years and become an absolute reference in his field. Just look at his roles and compare it with what other British actors of his generation have done so far...the gap is tremendous.
Having ATJ next to Omega's CEO on the photo means he's incredibly well considered by the brand while I don't think a sh** like Kraven The Hunter constitutes a respectable feat of arms.
That's why I don't understand why a brand like Omega would make him a global ambassador without any factual reason. Barry Keoghan, who is much more talented than him, doesn't have such a title. The current Hollywoodian ambassadors are George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eddie Redmayne. Adding ATJ to this list doesn't match in terms of prestige. The guy has done nothing to be included to this glamorous inner circle.
Let's be honest, Omega don't really need someone like ATJ. The guy is not an incredibly high added value...which could mean there's something behind this choice indeed.
I can't imagine Amazon calling up Omega saying: "We're announcing ATJ as the next Jame Bond in a few months. Why don't you tell the public this news by hiring him promote your watches? Some people may be to dense to get it, but true fans will see this as the actor reveal of their dreams." 😂
Just to be clear: there's a fair chance ATJ will be the next 007, but I don't think this is the way it will be made public.
Well, technically there's no mention to Bond here, which means Omega did it right. Furthermore, nowadays, marketing truly rules the system. I wouldn't be very surprised by such a move in 2025, especially considering the amount of the sponsoring.
Of course there's no mention of Bond there. It has nothing to do with James Bond, other than Omega possibly hoping AJB is the next 007. Marketing is very important, as you say. Omega knows better than to break the news of the next Bond actor in a watch commercial. When it really happens there will be a big promotion with parties and wall-to-wall promo from Amazon.
Patrick Gibson will never be the movie James Bond because he's 007 in the game First Light, at least in my opinion. The next cinematic 007 won't be introduced in such a way. Amazon would probably go for making a movie star and introducing him in a computer game is not how it will be done I think. The next Bond actor will be revealed with great fanfare and wall-to-wall media coverage. I guess Amazon probably will do some things differently from EON, but I'd be very surprised if Gibson turns up as Bond in any cinema.
However, based only on Calvin Dyson's video I think Gibson's look and portrayal of 007 is interesting and I like it.
True. But when Gibson was revealed as 007 in First Light, was there a press event like DC on the Thames er even a press conference? In spite of the huge computer games market this is a very low-key way to introduce the next cinematic Bond, don't you think?
Oh indeed, but I don't think anyone remotely expects the next Bond to first appear in a video game, so any future reveal film-wise would probably still carry the same weight.
I don't actually believe this is the case mind, though Patrick Gibson is arguably the right age for it, if Amazon decide to go the younger route.
I have no problem with his age. Gibson looks mature and confident. I wouldn't mind if an actor his age got cast for the James Bond movies if he has those qualities.
I doubt Gibson will be cast in Bond26, but if the game is very successful it would be an interesting and novel way to go to have the same actor then appear in 'real life' on screen. He could almost go straight into a stand alone mission, as they've got the origin stuff out of the way. I don't think it will happen but it would certainly be a new take on how these things are done.
I'd like to see a tall, dark haired Bond again (even though Gibson's hair colour isn't too different from Roger Moore's), but if it happened I wouldn't be upset. I just don't think it'll happen.
Do you guys believe Omega will stay an official partner of Bond?
Since yesterday, I think so. I hardly imagine Amazon stopping such a partnership considering Bond 26 will be released before the last episode of this game trilogy, unless IOI decide not to continue after First Light because of the potential lack of success of this one, which is something I absolutely don't believe in. Having both Omega for the games and another brand for the movies simply doesn't match to me.
In that case, the ATJ trail remains credible. Once again, I'm not saying this is going to happen for sure, but there are strong reasons to believe in this.
Did the world suddenly run out of actors with black hair? I am saying this as someone who's favourite Bond is Daniel Craig in CR and QoS - it's getting out of hand.
People on forums, such as these, are being laughed at and banned for suggesting black actors, but not when suggesting candidates considerably whiter than the original depictions.
Does it contradict the current agenda of villifying immigrants to keep heroes to their original complexions? Why are all male leading actors fairer skinned and all originating from the same 3 countries?
Remember that all other versions of Bond are darker than these reference images. Even Craig has cheekbones and a big nose despite being blond.
I am still at a loss. When did Batman or Superman get race swapped? To my knowledge they have only been played by white men.
As for Gibson , he’s excellent as a young Dexter, and it appears his hair is darkened in his appearance as Bond and he’s got the literary scar. Obviously a game will try to appeal to a younger generation as well. As far as villifying immigrants etc, I don’t particularly see it in this case. I mean go back to the 80s even Arnold, Sly etc were the biggest stars and while yes being white an Austrian and an Italian? And let’s throw Harrison Ford in there, a Jewish man with your words “ a big nose.”
Now to Bond three countries… Is the current situation basically meaning he can be cast from the UK, Australia, or Canada? And has that not been the case with the suggestions? I have not seen much pushback on Idris Elbas name other than he’s now aged out, but I think he’d have been accepted if Craig had bowed out immediately following Spectre and he’d been fast tracked and given the opportunity.
obviously this is my viewpoint and as white male American I may be slightly myopic, I am welcome to see another’s perspective but in this case I don’t see the argument
Don't reduce nuance to deliberately misconstrue my point. These two are not of the same ethnicity and it's made painfully clear in today's media landscape and politics. The world is more global and interconnected and not limited to the borders of the anglosphere and EU, yet certain ethnicities with characteristics similar to peoples of the MENA region see vastly less representation now than before despite being born equal citizens of the very same countries you mention.
Patrick Gibson is incredibly miscast in this role. For consumer demographic reasons or not, I hope we are at least rid of the hypocrisy when assessing candidates eligibility based on how their complexions compare to the original references. Bond is certainly not 'White British Male' if Patrick Gibson falls into that category.
Timothy Dalton (my favorite) is welsh. Gibson is Irish, Moore (fair haired) was an Englishman, Pierce was Irish, Bond and Connery were both Scottish. I am not being obtuse but I don’t see the argument. Like you previously mentioned Superman being race swapped , the character has always been as American and aww shucks as can be even Reeves who maybe the definition of the role on film dyed his hair. Furthermore you post photos of dead men like Norm McDonald, and Brando etc as who you think should be the next bond, I honestly don’t know if your trolling or are serious.
Take Gibson , get him tanned so he looks more of an outdoorsman , dye his hair darker and it’s no problem.
Brosnan was very fair skinned so much that in the making of goldeneye books the makeup artists discuss that they had to give him a sun kissed look and leave his stubble so he did not look too boyish.
I can see disagreeing with the casting but not to the point of saying he’s a Nazi.
please enlighten me about the actors we are all missing here that could carry the role and would still have the gravitas and accent necessary to excel?
Okay I’m done, I don’t think this poster wants to discuss anything I’m feeling this is some kind of troll behavior.
He posts photos of a girl, and Elvis who by the way had blonde hair and dyed it his signature black and Brando who also was a dark blonde naturally but is not willing to let Gibsons hair be darkened to get an effect.
He once posted a photo of what assumed to be an actor of his liking whom appeared darker skinned possibly Indian or Pakistani? When asked to name the actor they never have replied but they are upset that the community does not accept these actors as a potential candidate. While they make this argument I’ve asked for their suggestions or opinions on who we should be looking towards or are overlooking collectively and no actors are being put forward for our consideration.

Has Omega watches confirmed ATJ is the new Bond?

Every candidate suggested by the fandom and media would have been better than who was ultimately cast in 007 First Light.
Patrick Gibson;

He would be the new shortest Bond, apparently. That may be a barrier for entry, if Pascal / Heyman are bothered about that sort of thing.

Slowly race swapped Batman and Superman and now Bond.
What? And how is it nazi in your eyes?

Who are we talking about that’s being overlooked?
Much as I try I can't understand the point being made here. Is the problem that Gibson has fair hair? Are we really doing this again?
Is the complaint that blond people are over-represented? I genuinely can't parse it. Who cares about complexions.
This is not James Bond

Unwitting nazi are we now? Drop the act.
