I agree with the MGM lion's final verdict on Serra's singing.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

Decent Bond film that. A nice blend of serious Bond, with the Rog style humour the series still had to have at that time.

I haven‘t seen GE for ages!

I‘ve enjoyed it very much - must send Barbel a Serra Compilation CD for Christmas :D

    IMHO a good Bond movie-

An excellent 007 in Pierce Brosnan
One of the best collections of villains in any Bond movie, right up there with FRWL
Best possible introductions to a new M, Moneypenny and Tanner
    Continuity with good ol' Q!
Locations JB hasn't been to before
Quick nods to Fleming (the title, the "parents killed in climbing accident" dialogue)

Let down by the awful, awful score (title song aside)

So what is the best of Eric Serra's score? Or least intolerable?
My wote is the chanting when Bond is walking among the statues.

I like the unused 'A Pleasant Drive In St Petersburg'. I think that, having gone with Serra for GE, they should have let him go 'the full monty' with his experimental industrial stuff and had the courage of their conviction.

I really good Bond film. With a better score it could have beena top three or at least five.

N24, I never want to hear any of Serra's so-called "music" again. It's drivel, the sort of thing any half-baked musician could do with a copy of "Band In A Box" (look it up). He is without doubt the least talented composer to work on a Bond film ever.

Oh, I forgot Monty Norman- but at least he wrote "Underneath The Mango Tree" which isn't bad.

I agree with all those plus points. In some ways the faster pace here makes it a better watch than Campbell's later CR. Brosnan's best performance as Bond. Famke and Gottfried John are brilliant.

I agree Serra is the Worst, but some of it is passable - just.

    Absolutely!

He has only one flaw, and I hate to say this.
But he runs like a girl!

Yeah, I think he tries to be inventive with his running.

Yes, they are and I agree that Ouromov was too hastily dispatched.

So, Higgins, I suggest a Craig film next- what are your thoughts?

I only looked away for a quick sec and then he was dead...was just about to rewind but then realised I would be out of sync. He definitely needed a more significant death.

I‘d prefer to continue with TND just because of the tremendous acting performance from the „bloke on the backseat“ but if everybody else wants Craig, I am fine with CR which is a must imo

I honestly don't think CR is the best idea. it's so good there's not very much to talk about. It's also recent.
We should watch one or possibly two more Brosnans instead.
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 36,345Chief of Staff
How about QoS? It's the most controversial Bond film, there's plenty to discuss. CR would be a total lovefest.
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 21,798MI6 Agent
Good idea (even though I don't have it on DVD. Maybe QoS should be a Pasific viewing? :v )

I’d be in for TND or DAD. My first Bond and the most loathed film respectively. So I’d enjoy the watch and discussion of either.

I think we should do a Craig since he's the one remaining Bond not yet seen in these viewings. QOS would be interesting. I still haven't quite processed what I make of that film, so shared viewing could be a help. CR might be a good tonic to save up for after a more painful viewing (such as DAD). But happy with any!

He’s not yet seen because we’ve been going in somewhat of an order.

I still think one more Brosnan before heading into Craig.

so basically, we have every opinion on anything

Lets keep the ideas coming and i‘ll make a decision together with Barbel.
I promise, that every post is being considered.

We've seen Brosnan's best, so next we should watch DAD. Then we'll wtch Craig's best (CR) then possibly his most controversial (QoS)

I like that idea. Will the fact that QoS is more or less a direct follow up to CR bother anyone?

I'm not certain what's the right choise. Craig deserves us watching on of his best ones, but perhaps CR is too good to be interesting. Perhaps QoS and Skyfall or Skyfall and SPECTRE is better? I didn'tmake it easer now, did I?
if I have to make a stand I say Skyfall and SPECTRE.

I think that we need to have some of the less popular films between the much-loved ones. We can all agree that we love a certain actor or scene, but there will be different reasons why we don't.
