Not yet. Early next week at the BFI Imax Waterloo...

Just as well, feeling a bit sniffly and under par this week. Wouldn't have been able to make it earlier.

    It's YEARS since Spectre....

BTW the emoticons here are now crap. They've even replaced the old ones on old posts. It's like getting John Gardner to rewrite passages from Fleming.

    Well, feel better soon.

I like the emojis… although no bond winky one 😆

But my God there are some stupid questions being asked on the forum about the movie! Nothings changed 🤣

    Hi everyone!

I'm a lifelong fan of the films and Fleming books!

I've actually read ajb for a long time, I think I might have even had an account at one point in the distant past, but I never posted. Now it's time to change all that :)

Greetings all. New member here. Lifelong Bond fan, both Fleming and films. My favourite book and film is TMWTGG. Also love Hammer films, cricket and folk music. By day I have my soul slowly destroyed by working in retail. 😄

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 36,052Chief of Staff

Hi Simon, welcome! Fellow Hammer fan here.

Welcome aboard, @simon78. I love the TMWTGG novel too though I'm not so fussed on the film version. I'm a big Roger Moore fan but I think TMWTGG is my least favourite film of his. Still, Christopher Lee makes the film as Scaramanga and Moore gives one of his best Bond performances in that one. I also love Nick Nack, he's such a quirky henchman with unique motivations. It's just the other silliness in the film that I'm not so keen on.

welcome to @simon78 and @TheHighPriestess and all other new members!

More comments from new members please! give us veterans an excuse to kick back and relax while someone else does the talking,

simon does the fact you're a Hammer horror fan have anything to do with tMwtGG being youre favourite Bond film or is that just coincidence?

and welcome back to @Lexi and @Loeffelholz and all other returning agents whose names begin with the letter L

  • simon78simon78 Posts: 11MI6 Agent

Yes the fact Lee is in it is a big plus in my book. Also the fact it was the first Bond I saw. I do think Moore gives his best performance in TMWTGG and, for me, he looks the best and perfect in the role too. I know Moore wanted to go down the humour route but he's bang on as the more ruthless Bond

I think as I'm a sucker for 70s Kung Fu films probably helps as well

Whilst we're talking Hammer, would love to have seen Ingrid Pitt in a Bond film. Even later on she proved she had the chops as a villain in Who Dares Wins.

Yes, that is very much the Kung Fu Bond. Hope you enjoy your time here. 🙂

This is my 2,500th post, and rather than waste it on anything on-topic, I decided to make yet another self-referential anniversary post.

I probably won't bother with any more anniversary posts til I get to 5,000, which should be approximately the year 2035 by my count. Just in time for Bond26.

Last time I marked the occasion by explaining the user name (all the good Bond-related names had already been taken), so let's explain the avatar this time. This picture isn't actually a picture of Caractacus Potts, but it is related.

It's a detail from a sculpture by Rowland Emett, the cartoonist and kinetic sculptor who built the props representing Potts's inventions in the film. Do a Google image search on Rowland Emett, its all obsessively detailed over-elaborate proto-steampunk stuff. Here's a more complete shot of the sculpture:

...so that's not supposed to be Potts, but the character is a similar eccentric inventor and note his flying machine has a cup holder for his afternoon tea.

The Ontario Science Centre has a permanent display of Emmet's sculptures, which I must re-visit some day, And they made this promo film showing some of them from many angles. My avatar's in there!, starting at 3:20

As for my location, which some folks have suggested is a bit cryptic, well that's a line from Moonraker.

First of all: congratulations, CP! 🤝

When I first saw the second image with the ..... contraption .... I though it has to be a cut scene from the 1975 animated Norwegian movie "Pinchcliffe Grand Prix" (org. title "Flåklypa Grand Prix"). If you like stop-motion funny steampunk style movies you should check it out! Many still consider it the best Norwegian movie ever, and people who were kids back then who listen to "Norwegian sunset/Reodors ballade") without welling up is dead inside.

There is an unlikely theory that the pod race in SW: The Phantom Menace is based on the car race in Pinchcliffe Grand Prix.

Congratulations! You think Bond26 will be ready for 2035, then? You optimist!

I don't know the last time I visied the AJB forum but it seems like a long time. Just when you all thought you had seen the last of me and sighed a huge relief, here I am again to spoil your day!

Apart from working very long hours, I am trying to keep away from NTTD news. I have not seen the film yet and will not do so until I get it on DVD. I have managed to keep all the plot at arms length so, when the time comes, I can sit and watch it without knowing what happens.

For this reason I am keeping well away from the areas of AJB where it is discussed or where I might come across the plot by mistake!

  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 21,699MI6 Agent

Well done staying unspoiled for NTTD! Nice to see you back too.

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 36,052Chief of Staff

Good idea, Joshua. It's all too easy to come across information you don't want to know.

Great to see you back, Joshua, and I hope life is treating you well.

I am also very happy to see Teppo back. Seeing his name the other day was a blast from the past.

Finally, congratulations to Caractacus. I am also a huge fan of Rowland Emmett and have long loved his contraptions. If only he'd been hired to do the Christmas windows for Simpsons/The Bay at the very beginning!

  • caractacus pottscaractacus potts Orbital communicator, level 10Posts: 3,906MI6 Agent

thanks @The Domino Effect . I've probably walked past you in the street never guessing your a fellow ajb007 agent, thats what good spies we are.

Emmett would be perfect for those Christmas windows! they all have moving parts, and the Simpsons building is genuine Victorian architecture (like department stores and christmas windows in general), so Emmett's proto-steampunk aesthetic would fit right in.

Last time I was at the Ontario Science Centre I forgot they have that Emmett collection. Reason I was there that time? for the Body Worlds exhibit, I think in 2005. A year later we'd see the same disturbing sculptures in Casino Royale! anyway, I'm still leery of covid so don't think I'll be venturing inside the Science Centre this year, maybe next.

@Number24 @The Domino Effect Thank you.

@Barbel it has not been an easy task to keep news of NTTD away from me!
