    I couldn't agree more with stag's view of Brosnan. His tenure nearly put me off altogether.

    I'm surprised there's so much negative attitude towards Brosnan, who revived the series from its box-office low point and brought coolness back to the role...

    I'm surprised at the depth of the negativity, although it doesn't appear to be very widespread. Brosnan isn't the best Bond, but I certainly don't see him as the worst either.

    Brozza wasn't that bad. It was a shame that his tenure ended with DAD - but it is still watchable (but infuriating at times with the invisible car, John Cleese, Madonna's cameo, etc). Perhaps the only criticism was that he tried to be Moore (geddit?!) like Sir Rog than put himself in the role.
    In terms of Skyfall, I have a revisionist view on it. I was excited after I left the cinema watching it because it wasn't QoS (but actually after watching QoS several times, I quite enjoy it now). however, watching Skyfall again, I think that it is overrated. Bardem was not as good as he thought he was, DC still needs to decide whether he is going to go the full way with the wise-cracking, girl-loving Bond we want or not (because the 'halfway -house' version isn't working.) The ending was poor (killing Silva with a stab wound to the back was as big an anti-climax as you could get (and I do accept that the final act was a great touch, but for a baddie to be beaten that easily was not on).
    Mendes did an ok job (but again not as good as he thought). I think the next film needs a lot more work (call in Martin Campbell for advice will you Sam). Casino Royale has been DCs (and the Bond franchise's) high point so far. SF is ok, but not a sgood as it could have been.

    You mirror some of my own feelings. -{ I too think CR is the
    High point so far, and I've gong from hating QOS to quite liking it. :))
    I regard SF as a second reboot or tweaking of the formula, adding a
    Little more humour but not at the expense of story. So who knows with
    Bond24, there might be yet another tweak ? :))

    Im perfectly content with some thinking Skyfall is completely overrated, but to me its the absolute best film in the franchise.

    The next one will definitely have the same flavour, the bloated, directionlessness with a very high opinion of itself. And will satisfy/fool a lot of people and make a shedload. But so do a lot of films.

    I have enjoyed what Craig has done with the character, however patchy, but I do wonder if it its isn't time for a new face and a fresh approach to freshen it up again.

    Don't want a predictable re-tread in each subsequent film as the lead clings on to Bond too long. I grew up with Rog and his 1980s painting by numbers trilogy, hoping he'g get the boot after every film. As things stand, I can see that happening with Craigy.
