Mr. Pringle-- it seems to me that you could either have eliminated FYEO or taken a point away from CR, but not both. Could you please remedy that?

I disagree-- I found FYEO kind of boring and way too serious for a Roger Moore flick. What really gets me is that some people feel that CR should be the next to go...

FYEO is a great entry. It is surprising that it should have such a low score. Where I disagree is with your claim that YOLT is better than TSWLM. The Moore entry is better by far.

That I agree with-- Moore was much better suited to that over-the-top kind of Bond movie (and Connery's evident boredom does detract from YOLT a bit imho).

I used to feel the same way. But upon further views Mr. Connery does a great job (not his best) and is a better bond in every way. I am sorry Mr. Moore is not Bond to me. He did come the closest in FYEO which is why I consider it his best.

By any conceivable standard through which one can highly rate FYEO, Casino Royale absolutely blows it out of the water.

Yeah, that's what keeps things interesting though...B-)

(I don't mean anything personally, of course, and I apologize if I ever come across that way.)

For the sake of chivalrous discussion, riddle me this: what, apart from some subjective nostalgia or affection for Roger Moore, are FYEO and CR not at least equal? FYEO stands out because it was an attempt to get the series more grounded after being blasted into orbit in MR, and it was Roger Moore's only serious attempt at the much less humorous and happy-go-lucky Bond of Lazenby, Connery and Fleming. Casino Royale was made in a very similar vein and spirit-- and my (controversial, to you) opinion is that it succeeded marvelously. Where do you believe it failed?

Loeff -- Raining on my parade since 2006... ;)

BTW: Lazenby, I actually don't think your views controversial at all, in fact, they're usually the norm. I know that mine, in any way shape or form at all, considered the norm.

Why is FYEO better? Firstly, I'm partial to Moore as Bond, who gave a very balanced portrayal in this outing, as well as in OP and AVTAK, combining suave and humorous Bond with the world-wearly Bond, a happy medium for me, while Craig treaded in the world-weary, cold spy part where he's only beginning.

Kristatos also made for more of an interesting villain, more Flemingesque than Le Chiffre certainly, not being over-the-top at all (no bleeding eyes or annoying qualities) while being a menacing and even charming villain.

You have a hotter Bond girl in Carole Bouquet, who was much more feisty and independent than Vampiress Green ever hopes to be.

Finally, I love Conti's disco score, it runs circles around Arnold's boring mess of techno mishmash found in this score.

    FYEO > CR

On this TSWLM V. FYEO debate, I thought that FYEO was a terrific Bond film however I consider TSWLM to be one of the series' absolute masterpieces and the greatest non-Connery Bond film of all time. Oh, and Lazenby, I will be going after CR... but not until I get rid of TLD. :p :D

I truly disagree. I actually consider FYEO to be among the ten greatest Bond films of all time, while CR is much lower on my list. The reasons I consider FYEO to be greatly superior to CR are pretty much the same as JFF's except that I want to highlight three: IMO FYEO's Bond performance, Bond girl and screenplay are vastly superior to CR's Bond performance, Bond girl and screenplay.
