I like it. It's almost Shirley Bassey at some points but Adele doesn't quite hit the mark or achieve Bassey's sharp-edged brassiness. To me, it's a better, cleaner, fuller version of kd lang's 'Surrender,' which never quite worked 100% for me. Not that kd lang's song wasn't really good, I just think this one is easier to digest for some indiscernible reason.

It's no 'Live and Let Die' or 'GoldenEye' but it's definitely up there. Somewhere between 'The World is Not Enough' and 'Nobody Does It Better' for me. The lyrics aren't as good as 'You Know My Name' but it's much less grating and abrasive to listen to. Certainly my favorite Craig theme so far. I'd rank it in my top 10.

I think this sort of thing is rare in movies these days, and even though it's perhaps a middle-of-the-road song to Bond fanatics, it'll be a total pitch-perfect 60s throwback to your average audience member who maybe hasn't heard anything like this in decades.

General audiences will most likely appreciate or even love it like they did with Casino Royale. A title song is a very bold thing to continue to do in blockbuster films into the 21st century. I predict the vast majority of people will enjoy it's epic and moody sound, Adele's vocals, and won't mind the supposed lack of creativity or the background chanting, simply because it's such a novelty and a treat to hear something like this in 2012.

I like it! The music is beautiful and the lyrics are OK (I think they suit the movie just fine).

It's good, but it's an Adele song much more than a James Bond song -- take away the lilting Bond notes in the background, and it could be just another song on her CD. The lyrics don't strike me as consistently strong and the rhymes and images are cockeyed, but she does a good job smoothing over them. I don't think it measures up to anything in the 60s, but it beats a lot of the songs in the 80s and 90s and certainly is significantly better than the theme song to "Quantum of Solace."
I've never listened to any Adele's CD, but I've listened to Bond soundtracks a lot and I think that this song is a real James Bond song.

I remember that after listening to "Another way to die" I thought: "Now, I'll listen to it again and maybe the next time I will like it". On the other side, I've liked "Skyfall" since the very first time.

And, as someone has pointed out before, this song will be perfect for the initial credits sequence.

Well some like it & some clearly don't and some my like it enough to have a sing along this evening?

    Regrettably after hearing the close on five minute version my opinion for what it's worth has not changed & that is like the lack lustre poster campaign for Skyfall this is playing it safe instead of pushing the boat out along the lines of K.D. Lang's Surrender. The 50th Anniversary of our favourite suited gentleman demanded the twangy Vic Flick guitar & yes perhaps Ms Bassey blasting the roof off & passing out for her efforts. Yes we got the John Barry orchestrated (sorry Monty) James Bond theme which was a nice touch & the last few bars of the piece were reminiscent of Thunderball but we the Bond fans deserved more IMO. The lady in question sings from the heart that is clear and beyond doubt and she is the voice of the moment which is why she was chosen however to nick another posters comments, if she had still been with us Amy Winehouse would have I believe have done the 50th Anniversary theme justice, perhaps something along the lines of Back to Black which had a 1960's Bond quality about it however all said & done it's Adele so it will be a hit. -{

Let me quickly express what I think of the song! #)%#/"(#/!)((%/&#()""§!!!

It sounds so depressing!! And there is certainly nothing about it that makes it unique or memorable.

And the lyrics are really ridiculous! They makes no sense. How did they come up with it? Did they use www.random-song-generator.com?

The song, absolutly BRILLIANT, better then I ever expected, the best Bond song since Duran Duran, A view to a kill, sure to be a massive hit.

That's because the 60s Bond and the 60s theme songs are the best. In my view, The James Bond Theme aside, Goldfinger was by far the best Bond movie theme, followed by Thunderball, Diamonds Are Forever, On Her Majesty's Secret Service (instrumental) and Goldeneye. I'm an afficionado of swing/jazz/big band music and I really enjoy hearing big, bold, brassy notes in a song. Goldfinger, Thunderball, Diamonds Are Forever and Goldeneye in particular were sung by artists with a big, strong voice - something which I believe Adele lacks, certainly in comparison with the likes of Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Tom Jones, and Tina Turner.

Now, I'm not saying that Skyfall is a bad song. It's not. It's the best of the Craig era, and I would argue the best since Goldeneye. But it's not a patch on those classics. The song would be better off without the background vocals, though.

Not to be controversial or anything, but I honestly think the Thunderball theme sucked ass. The lyrics were just awful and the use of the title made absolutely no sense. And the song was boring. The only thing that it has going for it is that it is bondian.

Meanwhile, the skyfall song has grown on me quite a bit. I really like the chanting too. Not the best song, but I like it more than before now. Still a bit unoriginal to me though..

Well my opinion has not changed & this was to be expected even if it wasn't a Bond Adele number but it least we can thank it hands down for removing "That" from "Numero Uno" :D

The charts mean nothing these days. "That" (as ppw3o6r rightly calls it) is a prime example of the **** that is popular these days. So it's nice that Skyfall has overtaken it.

Just a question - Where is adele from? Her accent on some of the words are very strange. For example, moment as "momain", them as "they", stolen as "stolay", the as "duh"... if it wasn't for the lyrics being shown then I wouldn't even be able to tell what she's sayin'... just sayin'

    Excellent. I love it!!

Question is though how the title sequence goes. I miss the Maurice Binder style, the simplicity of Goldfinger for example. QoS was an awful sequence that looked like it'd been put together on a laptop a day before release (IMO).

I've just heard the new song in its entirety & am very pleased with what they've come up with. Some people have called it generic. True to a point. It's a deceptively simple song with a straightforward theme, sensible vocal (no Alicia Keys vocal strangulations, thank Christ) & a beefy orchestration. In fact its very simplicity is what for me makes it memorable. I was able to hum it after one listening, something I couldn't do with Madonna's effort for example. So, good on Adele & co for delivering the goods. I'm sure it will fit with Danny Kleinman's title design like a glove.

Best Bond theme for years. It actually sounds like a Bond theme which is always a good start, but one that quite a few performers have missed over the last decade or two. It's catchy, it's moody (which I expect to fit nicely with the film) and Adele's voice is as superb as always. I too would have liked to have heard a bit of a guitar, but I'm more than happy with what we've got.

Wow. Juxtaposing the footage with the song like that adds an entirely new dimension. This looks like a remarkable film, regardless of being Bond.

I'm more positive now than I was after just having listned to the 90 sec version. Many seem to dislike the chanting, but to me it's part of what makes the song distinctive. That and the brass. Earlier I felt the song was competent and traditional, but indistinctive. I also had problems remembering the melody. After hearing the whole song I feel this is probably one of the better efforts since the 60's, definately the best since Daniel Craig started. :)

I've tried to give this tune the benefit of the doubt & so have just given it a blast on a fairly decent bit of equipment & it is not bad until 2 minutes 30 seconds when the muppet backing singers kick in...Let the Skyfall..mumanum nummm, we will stand tall....manuman nummm...bip b be dippy!...sorry guys this is just wrong!

On a more positive note if you're studying the video, yes I know it's smoke and green, a PPK trigger guard makes an appearance as Thunderball kicks in :D

I had to log in for the first time in ages, simply to add that I think it's a brilliant effort. Very reminiscent of classic Bond themes and the large amount of brass is a very welcome addition.

Coupled with seeing the full trailer at the cinema the other night, it's got me more excited about watching a Bond film (and James Bond in general) than I have been for a considerable while!
