I'm with sir miles on this, when I first heard the QoS theme I thought it was crap. Jack bloody white and screaming alecia keys, meaningless crappy drivel.

However, for me it was a grower and I've actually come round to it. I think it sounds pretty bondian, and I thought the titles to accompany it were great.

I think Chris Cornell's 'you know my name' is better, and Tina turners goldeneye is always gonna be a favourite, but nobody does it better than Dame SB. Everyone says goldfinger was her best effort but I'd say it was moonraker.

As for Skyfall, I hope Adele gets it. I've always wanted Noel Gallagher to do one but realistically this ain't gonna happen is it.

This is where I disagree and therefore claim you must be deaf !! :))

I LOVE Another Way To Die and I find it perplexing when people claim it's 'un-Bondlike'....it's one of my fav Bond themes...

Fair enough, I guess we can agree to disagree about that ;)

I aint deaf either, I'm actually a songwriter myself, so if i was deaf that'd be a bit of a problem (I know you were only joking anyway btw, but just thought I'd mention that)

I hated the song at first.... and I hate it even more now - I dunno, I guess it's just not for everyone, and I'm one of those people...

Me too. Although Goldfinger defines the Bond sound and is the quintessential Bond song IMHO I absolutely love Moonraker (WAIT!! Don't get the torches and pitchforks out just yet! I'm talking about the song) and it has been a favorite ever since I bought the 30th anniversary Bond album with all the songs up until LTK, including the 007 theme and Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The funny thing is that I bought this CD before I saw all the movies, so I knew the songs of some movies before watching them for the first time :).

I hope we'll get a classic sounding Bond theme and a classic song. I think Goldeneye and You know my name were great but the other songs after LTK are not my favorites.

Who thinks they should do it a bit differently this time? Instead of getting a famous singer like Adele (i wouldn't mind her) what about going back to FRWL, Dr. No and OHMSS and have an orceshtra theme?

I agree. An instrumental theme would be a nice change, something very John Barry'ish. He was the Bond sound & a great way to celebrate the 50 years.

I wondered if even just using the Bond theme would work this time, it being a little under used during the last two films. Simple and celebratary.

All academic now though I guess, as the theme sond and singer must already have been chosen, and the score written to use the refrains.

Since downloading this tune to my iPod at the start of the summer I have frequently thought of it as very Bondian.
As I am running and trying to keep fit I can visualise the dancing girls and super aminated title sequence.

When the late John Barry was doing the scores you never had to worry about who was writing this or performing that.
Even when Barry was saddled with the pop band of the moment (ie Aha, Duran Duran) he always managed to put together something good.

IMO, Arnold did a fine job with CR (the best Arnold score IMO) and was able to weave the title song into the general score to good effect.

Hopefully Newman can give us something memorable.......maybe even some musical cues based on the Bond theme.
It would actually be nice to have a Bond soundtrack that I felt compelled to actually purchase.

Sorry, I could only tolerate about 3 seconds of that. It has way too much Pop elements in it.

Any news on who would sing the title song? The song must have been written by now (if not recorded).

Something I read elsewhere. A possible reason why there has been no announcement to date. It's been speculated that they are waiting for Adele to give birth before making the announcement. The baby is due in early September. If true it makes sense.

it might sound a bit harsh, but the first thing that comes to mind when someone says 'adele' is roy's ex girlfriend in the IT crowd episode 'friendface'.

    itcrowd.jpg

i'm sure she's lovely, and i think she'd do a great job of a bond theme. its just my warped mind won't let that 'joker' look go...

I would have agreed with this if it was said 5 years ago or so... back when Muse were decent. But the muse of today? It all went wrong :(

I'm not really sure about this & have struggled to form an opinion one way or the other. Muse could certainly belt out an epic anthem in the style of LIVE & LET DIE if in the right creative mood. Once upon a time I thought Robbie Williams might have had the chops for it, but he seems to have missed the boat. Adele has a strong voice, but I rather like Rumer at the present time. It's out of our hands though. Sorry to be cynical but whoever's on Sony's books at the moment will probably get the gig. :(

I'm more interested in Thomas Newman's involvement. Will he write/co-write the song? I'm not aware of any songwriting abilities on his part. What will he do with the Bond theme? Will he sneek in the old 007 theme? How much freedom will he be given to move away from a non-generic soundtrack?

I disagree, the new as yet unreleased album is superb, as was the last one in my view. I think that they are really hitting their stride. I would love to hear their take on a Bond theme, it would be overblown techno-classical freak out full of fiz and bombast. Bring it on.

Good questions all. I agree that the Olympics track was not their finest hour, but would still prefer it to the sub-lounge nasal whine of Adele.

I don't know about Muse, but I would really like Adele to do the them. I just love her voice, and her songs aren't like the other trashy stuff which comes in mainstream music on the radio. Her lyrics actually mean something (she writes all of them herself) and it is highy likely the Bond song could be top of the charts
