To be honest I haven't heard, it's something that pops up every
so often, but there are so many uses for knives. I can't see how they
    could be banned ?
As you point out, most people can be attacked by a pool cue, broken bottle, a
    House brick etc.
The same arguments were used when they banned martial arts weapons. Yet I
never heard of anyone being attacked by a Tonfa etc, but I've hear of loads of
People being attacked by baseball bats, Hurley sticks ( Irish game) cricket bats.
Yet none of these are banned.
If true, it's just another case of politicians wanting to look like they're doing
    Something. :#

The crazy thing is the UK has some very stiff sentences for carry knives
( up to 15 years, I think ) but the law isn't enforced by the courts, who
Still pass sentences of either only a few months or suspended sentences.
Like many crimes etc, New laws are not needed. They just need to enforce
    the existing laws. 8-)

I would place prisoners on the small uninhabited islands of Scotland, in
Tents. Have food dropped once a month .......and forget about them. ;)
Same with prison riots, if they destroy the prison by burning the roof off
For example. I wouldn't fix it, just put them back in their cells.
Vote TP, for a sensible Britain ! :D

I was shocked, several years ago, on calling in to collect a pizza, I was
Served by a convicted murder. He'd killed a guy ( by bashing his head
In with a concrete block) and obviously didn't get life ( which is now only
15 years, cut to around seven with the 50% reduction ) so maybe he did get
Life. I can't help feel for the victims family should they have called into that
Restaurant and had seen him behind the counter.

Back in the 90's a simmular law was introduced in Norway and many reacted pretty much like you. It turns out the law works fine. It turns out the police uses common sense and just enforces the law if .... say, someone brings a knife when going out on saturday night. I have never heard of hunters etc. getting problems.

I'm guessing at times I must sound like Donald Trump. :))

Although I did watch a documentary about young people carrying knives,
They claimed they had to. As the other guys carried knives so they needed
    To protect themselves ?
So by banning knives, the next step is for people to carry guns ? and suddenly
The UK is like down town LA. ?

    All or just Half ? :p :))

I remember being told years ago, that the only advantage you have if attacked by
a guy with a Knife. Is that they concentrate on the hand with the knife and forget
    To use their other limbs.

What do people on this forum (especially the British) think about the new Labour leader?
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
I was really surprised he won, maybe there is a movement to move
labour to be more " Left wing" as at the moment. You couldn't separate the
    Political parties on policy.
I think for the north of England , Scotland etc it will help labour, it will hurt them
In the south east, but they didn't have a lot of support there anyway.
As a bit of a leftist myself, I'm happy ( he had a lot of crap thrown at him and all
    The media was against him)
Basically he couldn't be any worse than Ed Miliband. :D

I have sympathy with many of his views too, but is it possible for Labour to win against the Tories now? You mention support in Scotland, but won't the nationalists take most of the leftist votes there?

Are there simmularities to Bernie Sanders in the US? I find this interesting.

I for one would just like to hear a different opinion on the economy/country
because at the moment, all the political parties sound the same, all coming
out with the same basic sound bites. So I'm looking forward to some " not
    Singing off the same hymn sheet" views. -{

It's a family forum so I'll decline to comment on his election as Labour leader but then I'm a conservative. :D

The funny thing is, I'd consider myself a Conservative ( but with a small c)
I'd be on the left wing of it.I just think for an opposition, it does help if they
Offer something different to the voters rather than , just a watered down
    Conservative party.

I mentioned earlier that I found the popularity of Bernie Sanders in the US and Jeremy Corbyn interesting. My take on it is that many people are tired of the "one percenters" gaining more and more money and power while so many are getting a raw deal. Also the "war on terror" with the torture, drones and invations of privacy is disliked by many. What do you think?
