I do agree. I think Dalton and Craig both represent Fleming's Bond. Though I'd say you're right, TP, Craig has a little more of a liberal interpretation.

no problem with emotions. But Bond should not be in tears most of the time :D

I for one loved Dalton, in the cinema I laughed when he laughed and
Felt his pain when he cried. I didn't care who else was in the cinema.
I exposed myself ...... All my inner feelings were exposed for all to see.
The beautiful thing was complete strangers would come over to comfort
Me. Lots of hugs and offers of tissues for my misty eyes.
( luckily, the next film was to be " Debbie does Dallas" so many of the
Audience had tissues on them. ) :)

The best Bond is usually the one that's most hungry for it. Moore still enjoyed doing the movies after a while, but it's clear he was just a placeholder and he wasn't as hungry as Dalton was.

He did Bond the way he saw him in the novels. And he nailed it.

    Agreed.
    Gassy Man wrote:
Connery remains the best. He isn't iconic simply because he was first but because he owned the character. And he wasn't just being Sean Connery.

    Also agreed.

Let me explain: I think Connery is the best actor to have played Bond. I don't think any of the other actors to have played Bond come close to Connery's acting talent, with the exception of Craig. Connery's performance in his first two films were nothing short of magnificent and, as Gassy Man said, he 'owned' the character. Connery is Bond.

But Dalton gave the more accurate to the novel portrayal. His was the Bond who was every bit the world-weary professional killer that hated his job and only killed when he had to, and who would drown his nightmares with a few too many stiff drinks. His was the Bond who was very much human rather than superhero, and who had seen death too many times to glamorise it. I think Dalton had the best portrayal of James Bond. He played Bond the way it was meant to be played.

The way I see it, Connery was the best actor to have played Bond; Dalton was the best Bond. But the former statement doesn't do any justice to Dalton's by the book portrayal; neither does the latter do any justice to Connery's superlative early performances which no one has so far got near (52 years later, I still think From Russia With Love is the best Bond film ever made). If I had to rank the actors, Connery would be number 1 and Dalton a close second.

Another praise-feast thread for the Timboys.

Well, maybe it's because we're right and you're wrong.
I keep hearing TD did it by the book? oh, by the book, by the book! if I wanted it just by the book...I'd buy the bloody book! why don't we just string one up and film it...answer cos it would come off as wooden as TD ;)

Without the book, there would be no James Bond. Ian Fleming created the character, and any derivative treatment thereof, including in films, have to be respectful of the original source material. Fleming's books are the standard by which all Bond films should be judged.

respectfully yes, but not a blueprint.

However, I don't really see Dalton being even far near the novel-Bond.
He looks like a mousy not-cool schoolboy who fails to cope and interact with the world and the people around him.

I am waiting that he'll stomp madly with his feet any minute :D

I'm my opinion, Connery is in a league of his own -{ the
Origin of the species, so to speak. ;) . We can only compare
The actors who followed him, and for me the best after Connery
Are Dalton and Craig, and I can't really pick between them. Although
I do think over the years Craig may have just moved ahead of Dalton. :D
