Happy New Year, folks! Hope 2017 is a great year! And to those who had a great 2016, I hope the greatness only quadruples! May we all pursue and reach our dreams as Bond reaches that airplane at Arkangelsk or captures Mollaka. :))

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but H&M has another Brunello Blazer alternate.... thoughts? It's been knocked down to $70.

Looks great armenianmovieman! Sadly, it's just for the big guys. It looks like they only have sizes 46 and up left in stock.

Sneaking in one last post before the end of the year. Here's a look back at our top 10 posts from 2016:

Does anyone have any experience with Cheaney shoes? They are not a lot cheaper than Church's and C&J so this might not be the best place to ask this since Herring shoes (for who Cheaney makes shoes) has shown up as an alternative in some posts I was hoping someone can give me some insight on the quality of this brand. (I've ordered two pair that were on saleso I hope to shed some light on this later in 2017)

I think I found a great alternative to a DC worn item long sold out now.

    We all know he owns the J Crew Baja Pullover. I found the following at my local Tommy Bahamas shop;

    http://www.tommybahama.com/en/Brazillionaire-Linen-Hoodie/p/T315364-10710

I know it's not "Bond" but it is a DC item he has been spotted wearing before. BTW, it's very comfy to wear and I highly recommend it.

I believe Cheaney are a very good make. But Herring shoes are made by various companies such as Cheaney, Barker, Loake and maybe others. Unless that particular style says it's made by Cheaney then it's probably best not to assume it is. However Herring shoes are in general very good indeed.

Thank you for your quick reply. I have ordered my shoes directly from the Cheaney website (they have a good sale right now) so I'm curious to see how they compare to my Church's.

    Happy New Year Everyone!

Starting 2017 right off the bat with my review of the ROYALE Filmwear pea coat:

Nice review. Unfortunately I usually have only 6 or 7 nights a year that would be suitable for a wool peacoat.

Now that the thread is a sticky it can be right next to the Tom Ford Harrington thread for added irony.

Really quite impressed. I actually went all out and wore it with the n peal mock turtleneck and blue suede racer jacket. The trousers are quite thick, they have some stretch but are a true slim fit. Overall I'm quite happy.

I've just ordered some. Down to £10 in the sale!!

Now that's a bargain. Honestly these trousers have a decent finish and good quality to the hand.

I really wish I could order those damn trousers, but they won't ship to my address. Any round about route I've explored means they'll end up costing closer to £40 by the time I get them. X-(

Time to start looking for more alternatives for those ones I guess ;)

One of my new year's resolutions was to improve my thrifting skills. I've been working on finding better deals on ebay, but I don't usually find much on the ground where I live. However I did find a couple of fun things yesterday:

    GE-Jacket-1.jpg

    GE-Jacket-4.jpg

It's just a promo jacket from Secret Identitee and it's definitely not in the best shape. So not worth anything. Still a fun find for $1.50. :)

I also managed to find an almost brand new Aquascutum trench coat for $2.50. Only Bond connection I can think of is the campaign Brosnan did for them in 2006, but I'm always happy to find a $1200 coat for under 1% of retail. :D

    Aquascutum-1.jpg

    Aquascutum-2.jpg

    Cheers! {[]

You can have them sent to me canoe2 and I'll forward them? I've done it a few times, once for James Brosnan himself.

Thanks, I really appreciate the offer! The problem is getting them from the U.S. to Central America. I have to pay $8 per pound of weight and duties now. And they round the weight up, so these will probably come in at 2 lbs. So even if shipping from the UK to the States is only around $10, I'm on the hook for around another $25 or so for the last leg of the trip. That brings the the price up to around $50 for me. I just have a hard time justifying spending nearly $40 in shipping on a $12 pair of pants, no matter how nice they are. {[]

Canoe2: I'm glad you are planning on becoming more thrifty because you are my thrift guide by your excellent website!!!

I'm not necessarily looking emulate the outfits worn by Bond, but everything is so stylish and classy that I love buying the cheaper alternatives you find.

    Keep up the great work.

Zara's JV alternative (the new version) has just dropped in price again, down to £69.99:

Hi, After much searching I did finally pull the trigger on this as I couldn't get a L in the original - I have had the original "in the hand" as an XL - the newer version I don't think is quite as soft but it still has a very slim fit and is a great jacket especially at that price - sadly I got it at the £79.99!!! I am yet to remove the side tabs but that looks straight forward and I will post pics when I have done it.

Together with the Burtons N Barrett alternatives, an M&S turtle neck alternative and my John White Westbury 111's it makes for an excellent stab at the outfit.

It is still a good jacket and for £69.99 better than a black copy etc. It is very slim fitting though - I have a Royale Harrington V3 size M which is a slim fit for me for reference and the Zara L is slim on me.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, that is a help. I did try the jacket on in Zara over the holidays and I agree about the sizing - I'm usually a small in everything but in the small I couldn't even zip it up. In the medium it fits snugs but comfortable and looks better for being fitted (on me anyway) - I didn't buy it as the queue was a mile long (literally snaked through the store) but have been watching it online. This morning was when I saw the price drop a tenner. From what I remember in that clamber for mirror space the added shoulder stitching (new for this version) wasn't too offensive. Not sure I have the skills to remove the side tabs but I could probably live with them. Be interested to see your tailored pictures.

Great post. I ended up grabbing that Reiss belt. Chris has raved about the company quite a few times, so I figured I couldn't pass up on a good sale like that, for what looks like a darn good alternative.

Orlebar Brown is offering deep discounts on many of its products.

I highly recommend their Felix in Navy as an alternative to the Tom Ford johnny-collar polo from SPECTRE. And at $75 it's hard to beat the price.

I argee, I have several Felix polos in different colours. They are my absolute favourite and I prefer them over the Sunspel Riviera.

Do the OB Felix polos run long or short? I prefer a shorter length polos. That's the one thing I dislike about the Sunspel, they run super long, great for tucking in, but doesn't look good on me untucked.
