Not exactly budget... but a well known, American made alternative for the kentons.

Canoe2 already has those listed on the site as an alternative... nice, but def not a budget option!!

You did hit the nail on the head. My husband has those exact shoes! I kid you not. I can't think of the brand but he has been buying another American made shoe that looks very similar and is about half the price.

Definately in the spirit of the CR look! I love the idea of using a different floral pattern to mix it up. Fantastic man {[]

I'm following canoe2 s example of frugal budget bond buying, while just musing through eBay I came across this
    20170123_203441.jpg

It's my size, it's suede, it has stand collar and split seams and it was £20! I'll see what turns up

    LL Bean Menlo Alternative

Does anybody have this and if so I am interested in sizing and how it fits.

I have the Royale Harrington V3 which is a good slim fit for me and can't work out whether I'd be small or medium in the LL bean.

Then just need to work out how to get one to the UK!!!

    Thanks

Who knows?? The seller put no manufacturer details on the ad, it should be here tomorrow so we shall see if it's a great find, or a waste of 20 quid :)

I have not tried one. But, I would be more than willing to ship it out to you from the US. However, I feel I should add my two cents. With the jacket costing $400, it might be worth forking out the extra money for the real deal. I know Menlo's can go for $800-$1000, but they can be found for around $600 on eBay, and I've seen less here on AJB. For example, there is one on ebay right now at a bid of $639:

    http://m.ebay.com/itm/152403264114?_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=1&asc=20150313114020&meid=88b21ca3dcba44eabe380d16b1cfeb6a&pid=100338&rk=1&rkt=24&sd=322383333071&_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_mwBanner=1

Clearly, this is just a bid and the seller may be looking for much much more. But, there is the chance this seller is tired of waiting and needs the money fast. I'm not saying not to get the LL Bean alternative, as it looks like a great jacket and is crazy similar to the original. I'm just throwing the idea out there. I just know that I've spent crazy money on alternatives only to buy the real thing for twice the amount of the alternative one year later when it became available at a great price. Of course, the flip side is, you could wait forever for a Menlo in your size and miss out on the LL Bean in the process. But, the LL Bean might go in sale while you wait...

    To add my two cents....

I have seen the L.L.Bean jacket in the store (I live in Maine) and would recommend it as an all-around nice coat and decent substitute for the Menlo.

But as the owner of a Menlo myself, I would second James Brosnan's advice about attempting to get the real deal. The Menlo has an altogether different vibe about it, due to the sheepskin, the cut, and the weathering. The same rough-hewn qualities that some here disdain about it are exactly what I prize.

    YMMV

Have been looking at this jacket for a while and not sure whether to go for it - it is very small, pit to pit on my small M&S Harrington is 21"!!! This is Large and pit to pit 20 1/2" so I think it's tiny!!!

reat post! I have begun to do this myself...but on eBay:-) I found a "Quantum PTS navy striped suit" from John Lewis for 99 pence, a lovely dress shirt from Taylor and Wright for 50 pence and my Spectre white tuxedo replica for £5.

Of course it hasn't all been plain sailing. I found a "Casino Royale Bond arrives in Nassau" suit for £10, which was described as light grey, and looked it in the photos. However when I got it, it is in reality a normal cream suit (actually closer to the one Brosnan wears in TWINE)...but my batting average has been quite good.

The version of thrift stores where I am are charity shops. I have had much luck in these as I would be a slim 38, but most people who give to charity tend to be getting rid of bigger sizes when they lose weight (as I have done myself!). Like yourself I found some nice suit jackets...without the pants to match! I find online thrift shopping gives me more lu

I know as a rule of thumb the suggestion is to stay away from the Bond replica jackets on ebay. But I was wondering if anyone has had experience with Jacky Fashions. Their Menlo alternative caught my eye.

It seems like there's an endless amount of replicas offered through vendors of varying shadiness. Any advice would be welcome - preferably from personal experience - as to who's ok (if anyone) and who to stay away from.

    Thanks.

New updates on a trio of N.Peal sweater alternatives:

    Cable rollneck: http://www.iconicalternatives.com/2015/12/01/spectre-n-peal-cable-roll-neck-sweater/

    Mockneck in grey: http://www.iconicalternatives.com/2015/12/01/spectre-n-peal-mock-turtleneck-sweater/

    and mockneck in teal: http://www.iconicalternatives.com/2016/02/08/n-peal-mock-turtleneck-sweater-from-spectre/

Not a ton new, but a couple of decent options added. More updates on the way!

Alright, figured it out. My site re-direct from a year ago expired and since those were older posts with older URLs they were no longer linking to the correct page. It'll take 24 hrs for the site re-direct to become active again, so best just go to http://www.iconicalternatives.com/

The updated posts are all under the Fresh Alternatives heading on main page.

Thanks again for the heads up!

Pain in the a$$, but it only costs $13. Just wish they had sent me a warning it was going to expire X-(
