Should've gotten them online with the coupon code! 35-40% off.

What coupon code? I've been trying a few with no success?

I'm pretty sure these pants have been excluded from the most recent sales and promotions at BR (at least in the last 2 weeks or so). I try to stay on top the sales from most of the bigger brands for the site, and while BR did have some models of Kentfields in their "50% off sale price" section, these ones were not among them (unless they completely flew under my radar).

Note: I also wanted to mention that I'll have a new post up in the next couple of days. "Oh, I'm sorry. That last change ... nearly killed me."

Those pants are part of the spring 2016 collection which is why there are no discounts on them, I gather.

I stand corrected. Sorry for false hopes! But Old Navy and Gap frequently have 30-40% off coupon codes for practically everything online....

The current sale requires no code and there are some Kentfield items but not the one you got.

    Yes. Consssssiderably.

I have this fit of pants from a previous season, different color, and they were very tight--but those were 100% cotton.
I'm wearing the Athletic taper, current season, 98%/2% like what you posted, and they might be the most comfortable pants I own.

Same waist size. I don't know if it's the elastene or the roomier seat and thigh in these that makes them so much more comfortable, but it might be worth keeping in mind.

Alpha khakis are great if you can find them discounted. You shouldn't buy them full price. Pain in the rear to iron a crease into though, but that goes for tapered pants in general that don't come pre-creased.

I know! The color similarity is fantastic. I wasn't so sure about the color online, but once I saw it in the store, I could tell it was a good match.

writingsonthewall: I'm going to miss the older a layout as well. It worked fine when there were only 10 or 12 posts, but now we're up to 37 and the scrolling was getting a little ridiculous. The old template also needed super large images to keep things looking nice, and those were becoming a pain to find. Thanks for the info on the Mango jacket; do you have any problem with me quoting your feedback in the post?

And sorry, no prize :# but you do get bragging rights (whatever that's worth!)

    esk1020: Thanks!

I should also mention that when I was cleaning up the links I saw some great deals on some of the Solden jacket alternatives.
http://www.iconicalternatives.com/tom-ford-solden-jacket/. Has anyone tried that Nordstrom Calibrate option yet?

I got the jacket in the mail last week, and its really great for the price! Its fairly warm actually, but here in NYC it still requires another coat on top, so I'd say its best worn for 40-50 degree (F) weather with a warm sweater and t shirt underneath it. I wear a large, and its the trim fit I was looking for, but the pocket zippers placement makes for a bunch up around the stomach that some may not enjoy too much. The zippers have a plastic covering that also makes them poof a bit more. I don't mind it nearly as much as I thought I might, but its something to consider. Color is great, really great quality, really I thought it was the best alternative on the listing, and for 46 dollars, I couldn't be happier.

Has anyone found a good alternative to the Tom Ford "Crombie" coat? It is a navy herringbone with moleskin collar. I've looked, but don't see anything that stands out as a good budget option.
  • Matt SMatt S Oh Cult Voodoo ShopPosts: 6,596MI6 Agent
It's a lot cheaper than Tom Ford (though not a budget coat), but the original Crombie coat that the Tom Ford is based on:

Here's one on sale at Uniqlo for $99. Obviously, the features are not exact but it's wool and looks like a good deal.

Here's an overcoat alternative. Like the Crombie, it's not a budget option but it costs less than the Tom Ford one and it's from an AJB007-approved brand:

    Hi all,

drum007, thanks for the watch suggestions! Your's combined with the info James Brosnan shared give me a solid place to start.

James Brosnan, chriscollins007 and Dufus: I honestly didn't think alternatives for BC chinos were all that interesting to people, or that it was hard to find options (I naively thought "sorta beige pants" would do the trick for most). What Matt S said is also part of the problem; I want to get a good read on the color of the BCs before suggesting that "this grey" or "that taupe" is close enough. But I will keep an eye out, including the GAP ones used by Mantis in his video and suggested by Obi Sean Kenobi.

So the big news: no new post today, but I have moved the entire site over to a new domain and template; it is now live here:

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/

All the existing posts have been migrated over and I've cleaned up the info (removing dead links, updating prices, fixing some images, etc.). I'm really excited to hear what the members here think of it!

Basically I did this because I thought the old layout was getting a little too difficult to navigate, what with people needing to scroll down and down to find older content. Also the menu and search was a little hard to find and almost no one was using it.

Anyway, there it is ... Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Sorry: I should have also said that from now on the new posts will be at the new site. I will keep the old one running for another couple of days and then shut it down, just to avoid confusion. Thanks!

For some reason the pic is sideways.......jacket on left, Dockers bottom, BR on top

Man those Dockers look spot on! Do you have a link to those? Are they as slim fit as the Kenfields? Do the colors always look like that or is everything more grey than normal due to the camera because that's the lightest Ive ever seen the Kentfields look, so it makes me wonder about that jacket. What color is that jacket.

Quick color comparison between the Dockers, BC, and BR pants:

Could be the lighting, but the Dockers seem to be an even better color match than the BR pants.

    Greetings all,
You asked for it: Brunello Cucinelli Morocco pant alternatives (with options for those of you in the UK!):

    http://www.iconicalternatives.com/2016/01/27/brunello-cucinelli-gabardine-chinos-from-spectre/

    Couple of quick requests:

chriscollins007: Do you mind if I use your comments about the Dent belt in the BC belt post?

James Brosnan: could I poach a couple of BR alternative pictures for the pants post?

otacon 01: Could I use your comments about the Dockers Alphas in the post?

AndrewJK007: could I use your comments about the Nordstrom jacket in the Solden Jacket post?

Dufus: could I use your picture of the BR/Dockers comparison?

Of course, credit will be given on the site! Thanks!

    Of course.

Jacket is a Chester Barrie, 100% linen so different fabric to the BC one; colour looks good to me.

I would also say the Dockers are a closer fabric match than the BR - weave and content mix (cotton/elastane)

Just a fun thing for the end of the day: I put together a quick mock up of some of the budget alternatives to create the Morocco look:

    Affordable-Alternatives-Morocco-Look.jpg

    james-bond-morocco-tom-ford-tie.jpg

    Tom-Ford-Knitted-SPECTRE-Tie.jpg

    That's the:
Esprit Premium Stretch Cotton Blazer (almost sold out now)
Dockers Signature Khaki Stretch Slim Fit in Dark Pebble
Black Brown 1826 Woven Leather Belt
Sharp and Dapper Grenadine Tie in Brown
Nordstrom 1901 ‘Grant’ Plain Toe Boot

Total cost would be about $315.00, plus about $40.00 for a shirt, so $355.00.

A few months ago I bought several sweater from Land's End which I felt made nice budget-friendly alternatives to a few sweaters/jumpers Bond has worn.

I purchased a Drifter crew neck sweater from them in "evening teal." It was a bit more on the greener side of teal but I really like it. Unfortunately, it's no longer available in that color. However LE currently has a cashmere sweater available in "Medium teal heather" for $179. A bit more expensive than their regular crew sweaters but still cheaper than an actual N. Peal. It also looks fairly (not 100%) screen accurate IMO.

    http://www.landsend.com/products/mens-cashmere-crewneck-sweater/id_292001?sku_0=::GQ8

I also purchased two Supima v-neck sweaters from them. One in black (as an alternative to the Jon Smedley in Skyfall) and the other in "midnight burgundy" ala Goldfinger. The sweater is no longer available in black but they still carry midnight burgundy:
