    Just saw this on Twitter.

But according to you, Someone, Boyle was never directing Bond 25! :007)

It does make you wonder whether they have someone in the wings. The logical candidate would be Mendes, I'm afraid.

It will almost have to be Mendes if they are to keep the date.

This has all the makings of a disaster. I wonder if it means Craig moves on? Talk about turmoil...

The next question is: what does it mean for the script? Back to Purvis and Wade?

There will be no role now for a Maori tough guy, one would assume.

    I cannot say I'm disappointed.

Mendes really does seem most likely. The new director is already in place. I don't think Broccoli and Wilson would let him leave otherwise. They must be going back to their original plan before Boyle came in. They had Craig signed on with a Purvis and Wade script, so Boyle couldn't have been the reason Craig agreed to do Bond. Craig probably signed on for the money, just like he said.

If they liked Boyle’s idea well enough to hire him in the first place, what changed? He must’ve really gone off the rails, because they don’t do this sort of thing on a whim.

I also assume Craig’s name was included in the press release to quiet any speculation that he is no longer attached to the project.

I am, however, disappointed if this results in a delay.

Yes, they hired him because of his creative idea. "Creative differences" doesn't necessarily mean that's he left for creative reasons. It's a catch-all term that sounds more polite than the reality could be. There could be a personal reason why Boyle left that he doesn't want to share.

Wow. I am genuinely surprised/mildly shocked by this news. I guess Boyle had a distinct vision where he wanted to take Bond and EON were not able to compromise. The only other guess is Boyle felt intimidated by the size of the film? He mentioned in an interview about finding the prospect of making Bond a bit daunting. If I can find the quote I'll put it up.

Anyway, very surprising news. Be interesting to see if all or much of the screenplay is rewritten. I got the impression Boyle and Hodges were a team, but if Hodges wants to stick around (hey, it's show business, no time for sentiment!) I guess the next director can work from his screenplay.

I was very skeptical on Boyle so called "great idea" anyway. Perhaps his amazing idea was to make the code name theory canon, and Barbara and Michael have finally come to their senses?

I’m hoping Martin Campbell comes in. What a wonderful job he did with Casino Royale and Goldeneye was very good as well.
    Yes. Considerably!

Boyle's hiring may have resulted from his "good idea."
“We’re working on a script at the moment, and we’ll see what happens,” Boyle told Metro US at last night’s screening. “But it’s a great idea so hopefully it will work — would love to be able to tell you more, but I’m not going to.”

If EON got cold feet about the great idea, they rejected it - that might be why Boyle has quit. Just a guess, of course.

I really do wonder if this will be the last straw for Daniel Craig? He's got a baby on the way and a lot of turmoil with the Bond 25 production. Is this enough to make Daniel hang up his PPK, or is the money just too good?

For those speculating on Mendes - he’s set to begin shooting a WW1 film for Steven Spielberg in April...

    Money too good, :))

Unless some mega-cheap unknown appears before December and convinces Babs to hire him, and Craig gets some generous exit fee (a few million!) I can't see Craig leaving.

He did a wonderful job on Casino Royale but GoldenEye is very overrated.

I'd like to see Craig walk. It would be a great way for creative people to stick two fingers up at the suits who relish mediocrity and banality.

What worries me is it seems like there isn't a strong singular vision for B25 considering the list of high profile directors who have been approached by EON and Craig.

If there is a delay in shooting - next year, who knows, perhaps Craig will reconsider. Seems doubtful. He's had enough time to prepare for his return. He's getting paid millions, probably over 20 million. I can't see him turning it down... but you never know. ;)

Wow! Somebody really didn't want to do a long, drawn out close up of that new Omega ....

I believe the presence of his name in the press release was meant to reassure people that he is still involved with Bond 25.

I doubt he would want to do another big set piece spy film after Fallout anyway.

Betcha Craig walks. If memory serves, Boyle was the main thing keeping him for a 5th film.

Don't think so......Craig announced he was returning before Boyle came aboard. Plus the announcement came from a small group including Craig.

I agree. Craig is in it for the money, not creative reasons. He signed on with a Purvis and Wade script!
