I thought I'd throw my oar in.

I've been collecting Bond autographs, in person mainly, for years. The below is my prize piece - signed in person (in front of me) by 4 of the 6 Bond actors.

Dalton NEVER signs anything anymore unfortunately. I saw him literally two weeks ago and asked him to sign this, which he refused to do...very rude man really. Shame, I think his Bond is great.

So, my only hope is to have Brosnan sign it, which is possible. He's signed for me before.

However, I'm in the process of selling ALL of my collection including countless autographs. Should anyone be seriously interested in this, I might be willing to sell. It took some bloody work though!!

Maybe you just caught him on a bad day. I read on Dalton's message board at IMDB he does not mind signing photos if you write him a letter. Granted this was many years ago I read this.

In my opinion that is utter tosh!

Dalton doesn't like signing photos full stop, maybe of him in another role besides Bond at a push - but there's no guarantees there.

He will only sign at most Index cards/Album pages as far as I am aware.

Indeed - I saw him a couple of months ago at the John Barry tribute at the Royal Albert Hall and he announced to all autograph hunters (that had been waiting in the rain for hours too) that he doesn't sign photos.

sorry to butt in here guys, I don't usually collect autographs, hence me not posting in here much, but as a bond i thought dalton was one of the better ones, however to be so arrogant is a shame, especially to the people who wait with such loyalty come rain or shine to get a glimmer of their hero.

its sad when people forget where they've come from, and who ultimately put them there. :(

I'm with you minigeff...I'm not saying he should sign eveything that's put in front of him...and I believe it's something to do with people selling them on for a proffit as to the reason he doesn't sign them - is that right ?
It would be nice if he signed some for the Bond collectors - but I guess it's how you tell who they are... :#
It's a shame because I like Dalton and I want to belive that he's a nice guy....

I wrote to many 'Bond' cast and crew members a few years ago and most of them signed. When autographs started to flood eBay, the signing by mail became less and less - or celebs started to sell their autographs on their websites.

With this in mind, you have to respect Dalton's decision. If he signs, lucky you ! If not, too bad.

wonder if you'd be saying 'ah shucks, too bad' in the pouring rain after waiting hours to see your hero?

A lot of autographs do end up on fleabay almost immediately and that has undoubtedly put some celebs off signing. For me, I like all my autographs to be dedicated to me - not only that does that go some way to dispel their thoughts I'm going to sell it, but I think it goes further towards proving I'm a genuine Bond fan.

Most of the collectors I have been lucky enough to meet (from AJB) do the same thing.

    Hiya,

These are the Bond images I have currently. Let me know what you think as to their authenticity. All were bought. Cheers.

I can't comment on Connery, Brosnan and Dalton, but the others all look good to me!

I must say it's a topic that interests me. I'm with Disco in that all my photos are dedicated to me. I won't sell them, so I certinly don't mind and it does demonstrate you are not trying to make a quick buck. Getting harder to get them this way though!

    Hey,

Thanks for the reply. This is where I got the autographs from if it helps in going any length to potentially ascertaining possible authenticity.

    Daniel Craig - Special Signings
    George Lazenby - Bond Stars
    Honor Blackman - TTM
Pierce Brosnan - Obtained through Special Signings
Richard Kiel - Through his official website.
    Roger Moore - Bond Stars
    Sean Connery - Fraser's Autographs
    Timothy Dalton - Bond Collectibles

I buy autographs for the pleasure of having them and myself not trying to make a quick buck also.

    Regards

    Rob

All look genuine to me. As Sir Miles says, you can't go with with Bondstars and even though Alex at Bondcollectibles has a couple of dodgy ones, the Dalton is genuine.

I can't see the Connery or Brosnan ones, so it's difficult for me to make a comment on those. Brosnan, in particular, has a number of styles depending whether he's rushed or not (sometimes he just writes Pierce, other times he goes on to write things like 'love life' and all that!)

    Hi,

Thank you so much for the input. Its especially interesting to read about Harold Sakata being very rare. I'm pleased to hear the Dalton is genuine as he, next to Connery IMO is very hard to obtain nowadays.

The Connery autograph was purchased from Fraser's and they have a good reputation though I've heard that doesn't always mean everything, I've heard even they have been deemed to offer fakes but that's open to speculation at the end of the day.

In my opinion its real but I am interested in other individual's opinions on my Bond autographs as I am a big fan.

Pierce Brosnan's autograph always struck me as slightly iffy - the reason why was when I was doing my research, most of the autographs only had Brosnan's full name but recently, I did a deeper analysis and found some autographs just have his first name and I happen to trust the dealer I bought from as they have a good reputation so I'm fairly convinced of its authenticity.

Roger Moore and George Lazenby are nice autographs as well. Bond Stars is a real marvel at the end of the day. They have done such a good service. The Lazenby is actually my favourite as its so clear and black and white autographs IMO are sometimes better than the colour ones.

Honor Blackman doesn't do TTM anymore to my knowledge but at a time when she was doing it, I got that really nice personally inscribed photo back.

I suspect that as my Richard Kiel autographs came from the fan club that they are genuine though I must admit I did wonder about one photo as it seemed to have a zig zag pattern to the signature whereas the one I posted was more fluent.

Daniel Craig's 'DC' signature is very famous - although not illuminating, it at least is very distinctive and goes a better way to determining authenticity though I may be wrong in assuming Craig's becoming tougher to get now as it was perhaps a little while ago whilst he was still blossoming as James Bond?

Sorry for waffling on but as someone else on the thread said, its a topic and a hobby of mine to collect autographs.

On a final note, thank you very much for your feedback - it is appreciated. Now all I need to do is find an authentic Connery to have all six bonds despite the one I have already.

    Best

Don't worry about the Kiel one bondbob...I would totally trust anything bought through his website/fanclub. Indeed he sometimes replies personally if you have questions. His autograph sometimes has a zig zag to represent his "teeth" so nothing unusual there!

Enjoy the hobby - I have only been doing it for a year or so and have IMO a good collection of 30+ photos. Mostly black and white as well as they do look more stylish. I must confess I have focused on the Bond girls predominantly but also obvously Bond and would include main characters if the opportunity arose. My current Top 3 dedicated....Ursula Andress, Roger Moore and Jane Seymour.

    Good luck with future collecting!

    :)

This is one of the best Brosnan's I've ever seen - bought from Alex at bondcollectibles and is over sized at 12x15. Love it! Rare to have a full signature and for it to have "007" added.

Everyone - Thanks for all the input and comments - much appreciated. Currently I have all my autos in a binder in plastic sheeting.

I have quite a collection building now. I would love to get a Harold Sakata autograph but when I save up.

Herve Villechaize would be nice, too.

I was keen to get the Bonds and Jaws also - Jaws is my all-time favourite villain and his chemistry on screen with the other actors is brilliant. His frequent clashes with Bond made for some of the best 007 moments as he was one of the few adversaries Bond was unable to conquer. I sometimes wonder if Bond respected Jaws in many ways, despite the fact of their differing motivations.

Sir Roger's is definitely genuine. I've always found it difficult to make a judgement on Pierce's because he's so erratic, but my hunch is that it is genuine too.
Not sure about Sean's though :#

I think this is one of the best Brosnans I have seen. signed by Pierce Brosnan in-person on February 29, 2004 at the 76. Academy Awards at Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles,CA,USA.

This Daniel Craig is one of the very very earliest of his sigs as Bond, I got it before Casino Royale opened at the Cinemas (when he used to sign properly) I also picked up a press pack with some original pics on a cd of DC arriving wearing a life jacket on speedboat to the press conference,

One of the best Roger Moores autographs ive seen a signed press still from Octopussy, on his birthday at his sons restaurant in London UK. These are all from my collection from 2006 or earlier as I havent got any autographs since then, Any comments welcome

I want to buy a signed photo of Sean Connery for my father for Christmas. I have been doing lots of research and am fearful of getting a fake. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Liza, I would suggest Bondcollectables but it wont be cheap, They have a top reputation for genuine signatures and also a lot of choices.

  • Hi Liza,

The most important thing when buying any signatures is that they are either AFTAL or UACC approved DEALERS. As you say there are a lot of fakes out there but if they are dealers approved / part of these two societies, then you should be okay.

Bondcollectibles is one I would tread carefully with, I have been collecting for a long time and I think that some items from him are too good to be true so I would be very wary of that one, especially as I have caught them out selling some dodgy ones which turned out to be incorrect. (Just to protect the site, this is strictly my opinion only and does not represent AJB007.co.uk in any way)

Any more questions Liza, don't hesitate to send me a PM, good luck and happy hunting! :)

My personal experience of purchasing autographs via Bondcollectables has been a good one, that is why I recommended them to Liza.
I too have collected many autographs for many years "not just Bond", and realise it is a minefield out there due to dishonest sellers with no integrity committing fraud on a daily basis.

In an Ideal world they would be locked up but on Ebay it is rife. Just for the record between me and you, which autographs are you talking about and how did you come to the conclusion they were incorrect? if you dont want to reply on here please PM me with your findings when you have the time. Cheers Kev.
