Bond is still suave, sophisticated, gambling and heavy drinker.

Not for one moment suggesting that EON aren't right in following your suggestions, TP , but can Craig-Bond stand another personal tragedy? And let's be honest, if Oberhauser (sp?) appears at the start of the film, he dies.

I think it's a shame that you would dismiss a Bond film without even seeing it, especially if you are a Bond fan. You never know what you might be missing. I understand that Craig's Bond films are not everyone's cup of tea, but even you admit that CR was excellent. Isn't it at least a possibility that the next one could be good as well? Mind you, I'm not criticizing you for your opinion. I'm just asking.

No need to be confused as you've answered your question. Personally I would rather watch the 'vintage' Bond films than the new ones. Casino Royale aside (which I thought was an excellent film) my interest in the celluloid Bond fizzled out after LTK (another great film). My main concern being the removal of the character from Flemings creation. I know we have to move with the times etc & Bond has to reflect current trends but fact remains that the new films just don't do anything for me.
I think I would have probably enjoyed Skyfall etc had I been twenty years younger. On the swivel & having seen it a few times I always thought OHMSS was rubbish until I re watched it some months ago. I now believe it to be the best film of the franchise, a bold statement indeed some may say but that's my opinion.

I've not posted much here, but having watched Skyfall again on ITV over Christmas find that my initial disappointment with Skyfall has only solidified since. One of my major gripes is the watering down of the realism of the film since Casino Royale, specifically:
- The plot revolves around a stolen list of intelligence agents. Not just British agents, but NATO agents. Firstly, why would such a list exist? Clearly this is not something to list. But most of all, why NATO agents??? Why on earth would NATO states provide SIS with a names of their agents? As these states intelligence agencies have an inbred fear of sharing secrets, its a completely over the top plot strand which could have been more realistic by merely going with a list of British agents instead.
- Secondly, the government inquiry into the activities of the SIS involving the questioning of its head. Why on earth is this held in public with journalists present??? Fair enough that such an inquiry can happen, but why the unrealistic inclusion of a public audience in a discussion of highly classified matters??? Needless I think.
- Why on earth was an agent of South American origin operating in Hong Kong of all places? Wouldn't his intimate knowledge of that region and its languages been more logically utilised in the continent of his birth?
I could go on and mention the weak overall dastardly plot of the master villain. I also overlook the "comedy" inclusion of the Aston's Goldfinger headlight armament (didn't Q say they don't do that anymore?). Personally, I also thought the final lines of Daniel Craig in the film "with pleasure M...with pleasure" also stunk like over ripe camembert. The root of all these points are the weak scriptwriting despite the thrilling action and stunning look of the film.

As for the list of NATO agents...well, Mallory does say this list shouldn't exist - so somebody either over-stepped their mark or made the list purposely for Patrice to steal...plus it could have been agents on a joint NATO task force, where intelligence was/is shared...not watertight, but good enough for me...

Me too. I don't know what they're on about. The first was a great end to a questionable flick and the latter was a PERFECT end to a flawed but AWESOME flick.
I would say Skyfall is the most overrated Bond film. I don't know about all time. Too many people think Skyfall and Daniel Craig's Bond in particular is the best. I think it's just a newer is better thing going on. It always happens with the larger audience.
IMO Skyfall is largely catered to audiences still reeling in the aftermath of The Dark Knight. It's new, slick, grounded, and certainly "well-made", but is it better? Beneath all the gloss, I think Skyfall is an intellectually dishonest film and Bond films should stick to being popcorn escapism. But that's just me.

Skyfall was, as they say in China, Clap. The worst Bond movie to date, overhyped, oversold & over here. The only decent film DC has featured in thus far is Casino Royale.
I'll write on the report card 2/10 must do better.

I was more bothered about ITV's cutting of SKYFALL. Is a shot of Bond slicing some bits of shrapnel from his chest really going to get people running off to OFCOM in complaint?

THE PUBLIC ALREADY KNOWS ABOUT THE LIST AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE TOP SECRET DISCUSSED. SINCE THE LIST WAS A PUBLIC MATTER, THE PUBLIC DESERVED SOME ANSWERS. Needless I think.
