Well, it's been known to work before! :))
We're hoping though to attend some family birthdays, etc, if everything comes together. Ironically, I was hoping to arrange to meet Markus while over there and he'll be here. Oh well, there's always next time!

It wasn't M15...(that was a autocorrect... for some reason :# ) but M16...I met David Spedding who at the time was posted to Amman Jordan, where my father was the Military Attache. We always called him the "hush hush" man as he obviously was in Embassy intelligence, and I've since learned he was a specialist is Middle Eastern affairs....we would often meet at various social embassy events (well more my parents, as I was only 13 at the time ) and we used to go on day trips with his family when he was off duty. My father was posted there for 3 years, as was David, so we got to know his family quite well.

If only we knew at the time...but his Nick name "hush, hush" was quite apt :007)

nice story Lexi sounds like a great childhood :)

I've been very fortunate...my parents drove back from Jordan so I was able to travel across Egypt, parts of Israel and a lot of Europe...

My parents also sailed a lot...we ended up doing 2 transatlantic trips, on a 40' Oyster...living on the yacht for a year a piece...hence my visits to most of the Caribbean, all of the coast of western USA, plus Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, the Panama Canal and Colombia, as well as Coastal Europe and the Med, as well as The Azores and Canary Islands.

    Spoilt some would say!

Now they live in British Columbia, Canada. B-)

Aaaaah, I love transatlantic crossings B-)

Was always a dream of mine sailing for 6 months on a small sailboat but I guess the reality is not always comfy and adventurous.......

I have to say, apart from just a couple of hairy moments... both our trips were particularly adventurous... and surprisingly comfy...however on transatlantic crossing showers were out of the question... and trying to go for a wee when the boat is pitched at a 40° angle makes for interesting times :))

Hitting sleeping Whales was more a concern than bad weather...no kidding!

Jordan was when I was 12-15...(1983-86)

My first big sailing trip, I was aged 17-18, the second I was 23-24.

    Indeed...let alone living there.

We were very fortunate to be able to, in relative peace. I have to say the Jordanians were lovely... the Egyptians on the other hand...*shudder*

A completely different story now... :#

How widely known was it that Spedding was intelligence? Was it an "official secret" or was it just a few at the embassy who knew?
If you were Soviet it would have been a given that your father was KGB/GRU since he was millitary attache. Did you ever wonder? :v

There are stories of Soviet embassy personell who pretended to be spies because they didn't want their colleagues to think they weren't pulling their weight! :))

I haven't hurt a whale in my life! I have known people who have, I guess. At least If Big White Tunas (I think that's the English name) count. To be serious: I don't see anything wrong with hunting whales if the populasjon is sustainable and the killing is done quickly.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
No I wasn't going to have a discussion on whale hunting, I just remember
You posting about some Norwegian recipes, which had Whale meat included. :D
and it is the Stereotype, we have of Norway. :))

Yes, let's not have a discussion on whale hunting. :) and life would be boring without stereotypes.
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,618MI6 Agent
Population of all known whales is not sustainable so whale-hunting is a no-go.
That should be the end of the discussion .
