I'm the project manager for the DB5 and the Bond Car Collection and I thought you might appreciate me dropping by to answer a few questions. Sorry if other people have already provided some of the information.

The first thing to say is that the product is only available in Grampian at the moment, so anyone outside the area who tries to subscribe should be politely declined. This is because we're conducting a test. We're expecting a much wider launch in early 2011. I'll provide more details as soon as we have them. In the meantime, I'm afraid it's just a case of being patient.

To turn to more specific questions:

The sculpt is completely new and we haven't based it on anything that was previously created for anyone else. It was produced by Zindart, who also worked on the Corgi prototype, which we were offered the opportunity to buy. We decided that it was better to start from scratch. Aston Martin have been very concerned about the accuracy of the sculpt and we actually took it to their workshop in Newport Pagnall and compared it to a real DB5. I promise you they wouldn't let anything substandard through. We were talking about moving things by millimeters.

Some of the 'inconsistencies' that people have mentioned are due to the fact that DB5s were all made by hand. For example, the shape of the wings can vary quite significantly from one car to another. There is also a little distortion being caused by the camera lens. You can't photograph a 57cm model and make the perspective look the same as on a 4.5 meter car.

There are one or two things that we simply cannot recreate at this scale. The most serious thing is that we can't put a rubber seal around the windscreen. We did consider painting a black line to simulate it but decided against it. The handbrake should also have chrome body but a black handle. Combining the two finishes is too difficult at this scale so we had to choose black.

The pictures that we're using at the moment show the prototype and there are a few things that will be corrected on the final model. For example, the headlamp covers are from a DB6 - if you look at the film they didn't have those little lugs at the bottom.

The bodywork will all be die-cast. The majority of the interior components will be made of ABS. It's true that the body will be supplied in several pieces, but I think you'll be amazed at how neatly they fit together. That's how the prototype is constructed and I defy anyone to look at the pictures on the website - www.007DB5.com - and see unreasonable gaps. We did look into supplying the body as a single piece but it would have made the model prohibitively expensive.

Remember that some of the details on the website are shown significantly larger than life size, which might create the illusion that they are a little 'Wallace and Gromit'. When the model is available where you live, I suggest you have a look at the printed material inside the first issue to get the best possible sense of the quality. We discounted the first issue so that people can do just that, but, honestly you can probably just look at it in the shop.

The lights work, the dashboard illuminates, the horn will sound, and, if I have my way, the tracker device will ping with the same noise that was used in Goldfinger. What else? The ejector seat works. In fact, all the gadgets work, though sadly we couldn't get the model to belch smoke.

    I hope that helps.

    Hi Mr Steed?

Thank you for taking the trouble to clarify some major points. All those who have read the first issue will know that all photo reference was of the prototype model & will have seen the before & after AML approval shots.
Personally as a collector November 2011 cannot come fast enough & just in time for the 50th Anniversary to boot!
Anyone on the fence should spend £2 on the first issue, you won't need Viagra afterwards...

am i right in thinking this model features working lights?

also, is it set in stone it will be 75 issues and no more?

It has to be only 75 issues, unlike the JBCC, they can't add any extra bits to the DB5. -{ :007)

    I just rec'd issue 2 & 3 today..when do we get the freebies??????

Hello To All i'm on issue 3,issue 2 being not so bad, with magazine holders and a nice couple parts, issue 3 a tyre and arm rest, its looking ok,for the size of tyres they could have put some tyre wall detail in,but that only complaint for now,i'm buying two a week one to keep one to sell,so watch this space in 2011,although i too have to back order issue one

    HI
    now i'm a bit comfused
i have subscribed to the magazine and the welcoming e-mail gives me details of when all the paments will be taken from my bank,
    2 payments in may(covering 8 issues),then a further single payment each month from june onwards(covering 4 issues)
surely we are not paying for the magazine now if it states that the magazine will not be out till 2011

I don't think that's the case, I'm in Lincolnshire & I've received my first 3 issues already including the mag that comes with them & I don't think I'm the only one this has applied to.
A little confusing I must say, perhaps the catchment area has expanded now.

Thanks for the info. good luck with that, i dont think id be able to resist for 1 1/2 years without putting a few bits together!!

I ask about the subscription as I was thinking of subscibing myself. I would have rather had it delivered to my newsagent as opposed to my postman trying to forcefeed it through my letterbox and possibly breaking delicate parts!!

I used to collect the JBCC from the shop, but I found that there was more damage done because they were not sent in boxes, but now I subscribe & have no probs at all...if I was you I would subscribe..at least you will be sure of getting all the bits & if by chance they are faulty, there will be no problems returning it -{ :007)

Well youve convinced me!! The only other issue was that im not in the Grampian area.... Ive been hoping JohnSteed would clarify this, but I may just take a chance as other ppl havent seemed to have had a problem.

The problem is the items are not sent in order ie: wheels, chassis,body..what if you lost a small piece, say a mirror or a headlight? then you would have to fork out £6.99 just to get that bit..take for instance the guy in the news recently who took 7 years to do a 5000 piece jigsaw then discovered he'd lost just 1 piece..what a bummer..& just think of the joy of completing it all in one go..you'll be as happy as a dog with two tails. -{:007)

hey all, i'm in Cardiff and have subscribed. I've had issues 1, 4 and 5 so far, so i foned GE and they are resending 2 and 3.

i must say it looks awesome and there was a questionnaire with issue 1 asking about quality etc... but also whether i would collect parts for a DBS (?) in weekly parts - maybe they are gona do more !!!!!

i was disappointed with issue 1 tho - it came with a large cardboard display probably aimed at the newsagent - and this was bigger than A3 size and creased , i'm also worried that more delicate parts may get damaged because they are only in plastic bags not cardbaord boxes.
oh, and i can't yet log in to my account on 007db5.com so i've e-mailed them - no reply yet tho!!!!

    hello all,,

im getting a bit concerned about this, i still havent had a reply to my email or any of the freebies - hopefully JohnSteed will pop in and reply !!! - but the parts i've received so far, issues 1, 2, 4 and 5, do look good and i'm still excited about it all -even started sourcing display cabinets .

is anyone else having problems getting replies from them, please let me know ??

here is how i see it(hopefully i'm wrong)
i have received issues 2,3,4+5 but paid for 8 issues(9 if you include my back order for issue 1 which i am still waiting for after 4 weeks).the parts that come with issue 5 are less than stated on the official web site in the parts list.
remember when the jbcc started we got the first six issues then there was a delay until the official launch then the cars came out in a slightly different order.
then with the spy files the same happened, remember the test set of 80 cards came out first.
so we may soon get a letter saying thanks for your interest in the model, and the collection will start in 2011
or they are puting less parts in the magazines so they can extend the collection again??????????

STILL waiting for issue No. 4 and as yet, NO FREEBIES!!! I'm in the same frame of mind as you all - wondering how long it will be before they resume publication? I wonder if there are that many Bond fans out there after this publication that they cannot keep up with demand and supply???

I suspect that is exactly what it is regrettably. The give away is the last page of each issue details what component parts will be in the next issue. The last page in issue 6 has a nice still from Goldfinger with no mention of issue 7. I am awaiting a reply from the publisher where I have posed this exact question. I also believe there have been concerns with the condition the printed matter has been arriving in the post since the oversized pictorial folders have been discontinued presumably to keep costs down. Any replies from the publisher will be forwarded to this forum

It was I'm afraid, as I telephoned them today & got verification that after issue No 6 there will be no more until early 2011!
I was told no money will be taken, but we will receive a letter asking us if we want to continue with our subscription before its goes public. Any changes to the models parts that we already have, will be sent to us free of charge.

So there you go. Mr. John Steed did mention 2011 as a starting point, & he did say outside the Grampian area new subscribers should have been declined, but we wasn't.

I for one will stick it out & wait, but I must admit, we should have been informed of this on the website BEFORE your allowed to subscribe.
GE Fabbri do not have a very good customer information policy, so after this, I for one will not trust them on a subscription level again.
