I don't think it would stop them hiring him as it wasn't massive and I don't think he's known for that especially, I guess it depends on whether he'd find it less interesting though, I don't know.
That would be an interesting choice. Maybe he can break away from dying in almost every movie he's in. Unless he's M for one pic because he meets an untimely death.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
That would work. Personally I'd like to see a Q of Indian descent (or maybe Arab?). Intelectuals from those regions have such a beautiful English accent. It would also be a nice nod to the many millions of Bond fans on the Indian sub-continent and also work against the stereotype of the call-center operator.
Alexander Siddig would be good, but I think an actor with a background mostly from the theatre and movies most people don't see would've been even better.
I’ve seen folks suggest Himesh Patel who I think could interesting and fun, although he’s the new star of the X Files so I guess it would depend if he’s around.
Here's a wild idea: Sasha Baron Cohen as Q! He's best known as an outragous comedian, but he's delivered some good serious performances too. He's even played a spy.
He's a bit of a flavor of the month now, but I think Walton Goggins would be a superb Felix Leiter--except he'd probably be at least two decades older than whoever they get to play Bond.
Yes, Walton Goggins as Felix Leiter would be perfect with an older Bond. However, as an another older CIA Agent or as a villain he would be excellent. I'm on record that I would prefer less known actors cast as M, Q, etc. but for a moment while watching Daniel Radcliff in his latest TV series where he plays a quirky award winning film director prodigy who has basically wrecked his career, I thought maybe Radcliff would make an interesting choice for Q, in the nerdy, geeky, less serious side of things. But despite Radcliff's embrace of quirky, independent films as an adult, he's probably still a bit too identified with the Potter films.
Someone suggested Benedict Wong and I find that very easy to picture, and I think he'd be great and would bring something different to it. Quite easy to imagine him as a grumpy Q.
Due to recent Bonds and their heavier use of the MI6 and my usual writing of ensemble casts, here's my opinions. On who could play the recurring regulars in a three-four-five arc. Only if I had a bit of creative control, don't judge me!
James Bond: Asa Butterfield (year two type of Bond)
M: Emily Blunt (would be able to handle herself in action, pure trust in Bond, just occasionally nitpicking on certain things)
Q: Phoebe Waller-Bridge (would be kidnapped by SPECTRE and use her tech skills to escape)
Moneypenny: Hayley Atwell (mix of agent and secretary)
Mary Goodnight: Anya Taylor-Joy (a bit ditzy, but still compliant enough to handle herself)
Loelia Ponsonby: Rachel Weisz (full time MI6 secretary, openly cares for Bond)
Felix Leiter: Alden Ehrenreich (he would get in on the action, not just defending Bond and giving him information)
Bill Tanner: Robert Pattinson (once again, he could be in on the action, great with sleath)
Alec Trevelyan: Andrew Garfield (more a mentor, than a peer, built up his betrayal over two movies, at least)
Dr. No: Michael Shannon (a mad scientist, with a different science to make his own)
Irma Bunt: Diane Lane (she's wanted to play a villain, who better? Maybe a mentor for Blofeld. Army General at one point)
Ernst Stavro Blofeld: Tom Hiddleston (a calm version of Blofeld, yet could handle himself physically. Acting career, which helps with his changes)
Joanne Brochet/Sixtine: Saoirse Ronan (same as she is in the Forever and a Day Book. Bond is sad when she dies, but doesn't feel the need to advantage her)
Charmian Bond: Felicity Jones (tough, mostly as written in the Young Bond books. She lives to the end of the overall movie story arc)
May: Olivia Colman (same as the books, an occasional quip or two towards Bond's lifestyle)
Auric Goldfinger: Russell Crowe (loves diamonds as much as gold, banker as much as businessman)
Felicity Willing: Winona Ryder (mostly the same plot as the book. Known to be evil from the beginning)
This was fun to make, this could be a unique cast for a decade, at least. But then again, I'm not in charge!
I have a thought on Moneypenny. What if the new Moneypenny is a lesbian and the banter/conflict between her and Bond isn't about flirting, but Moneypenny being (playfully?) jealous of Bond because he gets all the hot girls? Is this a good utdate to the dynamic, or going too far from the tradition?

I would tolerate Tom Hollander for sure - hmm, and yes, would the Ipcress remake count against him?

I just saw an interview with Sean Bean and I thought: He has the right age and the gravitas to play M now!
That's not a bad shout at all, I can see that; and he'd have a bit of an edge that M hasn't had before.
That would be an interesting choice. Maybe he can break away from dying in almost every movie he's in. Unless he's M for one pic because he meets an untimely death.
I think Sean Bean has not dying in his contract these days.
Matt Smith as Q?

Well, Alexander Siddig of Deep Space Nine, Game of Thrones, and Peaky Blinders fame could be a very good choice for that.

It's unfortunate that most of the actors we suggest probably are too famous for a MI6 regular.

That's a superb suggestion

I agree.

That’s fun; I’m not sure Moneypenny should be older than M though! 😄
Too famous actors in my opinion. M and the villain can be played by stars, but the rest should generally be lesser knowns.
