Firstly my best wishes to you all at this time. I have a little experience of this which may or may not be of use. However like most things what will happen WRT your mum is case dependent. So, if you don't wish the detail surrounding her situation to be in the public domain please feel free to PM me (but be aware that I don't get to visit the site as often as I would like).

Here is a couple of broad scenarios which may be applicable. If your mum is capable of looking after herself & wishes to do so then nothing should change.

If she is incapable either physically or mentally then you should contact Social Services. They will provide both advice & practical help. It could be that your mum may require home care. Dependent upon financial circumstance this could be given free or she may have to contribute on a sliding scale to the point where she may be liable to pay all costs, this is usually determined on property value & savings.

If she does need home care then I advise you to choose the provider carefully. Do your homework &, acting as her advocate (I presume you don't have power of attorney) work alongside the social worker who will be assigned to her to ensure she gets the assistance she needs. Be very specific about her needs & what you require from any health care agency.

My own mother required carers to visit her in her home when she succumbed to dementia. While some of them were okay there were two or three who were unsuitable for work within that sector. I had a couple of run ins with them & had to involve social services. It was SS who revealed my then occupation to the care agency & from thereon they mysteriously became compliant. After the cat was out of the bag I went on to advise them that I was seriously considering having a couple of their staff arrested for fraud by misrepresentation with regard to their actions relating to their paperwork (but that's another story) I did however have them removed from their posts. In the end my mum came to live with us until she sadly died.

As said if I can give any advice I will. Just let me know.
All the very best to you AS I think stag has given some good info there, I would just add that my wife is a social worker who specialises in adult care and Dementia. She is very committed to the people and the cases she deals with and cares enormously about the right outcome for all concerned, there is for more support and care packages available than people might think so please try not to panic for your mother's welfare (if course you will worry like mad) the social services are not to ge feared and can and will help you and your family without being overpowering. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me and I'll refer to my good lady.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

First of all: Our thoughts are with you and your family AS :)

Now for something completely different. This new years eve Putin signed a new security doctrine for Russia. This doctrine states that NATO is the biggest security threath for Russia. This is both sad and worrying :#

As a means of clearing the air to facilitate moving forward, I am going to get some things off my chest, but in doing so I must make the dreariest post of my AJB career, so I convey my apologies in advance. I am in my eleventh year here, and I've always considered this site to be a haven from the drudgery, demands and unpleasantness of the real world, and thus have always dreaded the intrusion of political debate into this charming and diverting oasis. There are no shortages of online political Fight Clubs in which to mix it up, and trade bloody noses and fat lips; why not keep it there?

Alas, AJB has a resident cabinet of like-minded politicos who like to opine on the Offensive Political Threads (read: Random Chat and Rant Box) so in reality there isn't much debate...but IMO the lack of philosophical diversity has cultivated (intentionally or not) an hyena-like pack mentality. As (apparently) the only political conservative Bond fan on earth, I have come to feel a bit like Charlton Heston in The Omega Man. Just as he could never go out at night, I cannot visit these threads without having my beliefs ridiculed and insulted. Which is fine, of course---Freedom of Speech, and all that---and so, some time ago, I resolved to simply avoid going out at night, as it were; to simply stay away and give you fellows room to have your fun. And this worked, until

Well, hello. I didn't misinterpret this; perhaps you miswrote it? As it happens, I agree with some of those people (even though the 'neo-con' moniker is often misused, and is now largely a pejorative used by the left), so can you at least understand why I take issue? interesting, also, that you consider it perfectly acceptable to slag a group based on their minority status because you dislike them. How very progressive. Still, I'll take you at your word that you intended no malice.

    Oh dear!

after your very nasty pm almost 4 weeks ago where you've told me not to contact you anymore as everything would be deleted, I wish, that you'd have followed your own advise.

I left you alone just for peace sake and I was trying and am still trying to keep the discussion in a respectful manner - can't see much of it in your previous post.

So, remember - I've left you the last word until you came up again here and distributed your hate and disgust 8-)

A lot of your accusations and name-callings below and above have been wrong but - different to yourself - I'll see them as differences in view and that's then fine with me.
Here, you're either slagging all Americans, or only some? But to say you aren't slagging is just intellectually dishonest. Regardless, every single thing you've said since then has been the equivalent of noise---like radio static---accompanied by the rich, pungent bouquet of a lingering flatulence.

I was criticizing that - in the present terror-hysteria - people oversee that a LOT of imo terror comes from groups, which are not muslim, not arabic , not from foreigners with beards and I was just asking why those frequent, planned and religiously motivated kills are not also called terrorism.

    Nothing more and nothing less.

As I said in my pm to you: My country owes the USA a lot. Your country was a large factor in fighting a deadly and nasty regime here which too many people fell into and your people helped to give peace to Europe.

One thing that we've learnt from these dark days is, that differences in opinion must be discussed.

I see the american people as our friends and part of that friendship is, that we are telling our friends when they are on the wrong track.
We've done so when the (republican) President G.W Bush started his wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, wars which where good for nothing but destabilized an entire region even more.

    And we'll continue doing so.

In my opinion, most parts of the republican party consist of self-orientated destructive and nasty people, who are heavily supported and influenced by lobbyists like Koch Brothers and others, who have no interest to make our world any better.

If that offends you - I am really sorry about it, but you won't change my opinion and you and you won't keep me off from saying it, cheers {[]

As a closing thought, I'll repeat what I've previously said: It's interesting that people that follow the nastiest, most intolerant and selfish politics are those, who get very easy offended when being called out or criticized.

See what amount of hate and selfishness is distributed on Fox News every day and how loud they scream when someone steps on their toes.

When I sat down for dinner today I listened to the classical music channel. I discovered imediately heard that I was listening to the YOLT soundtrack played by a symphony orchestra. Turns out it was the first part of a two-part four hour program on the music of Bond. they will play music from all the Bond movies (other than LALD - turns out the sountrack doesn't work for a symphony orchestra). I really enjoyed it and I'll listen in next sunday too :007)

Hello stag, I am a retired bookseller, if the books are 1st editions published by Jonathan Cape they could be very valuable - if they are book club editions then a few pounds at most. If they are 1st editions from Jonathan Cape then best to contact a reliable bookseller or even an auction house such as Sotheby's. I hope they are valuable :)

Well today (13 January 2016) sees the thirteenth anniversary of my joining AJB back in 2003. I still recall that very day and my first posts here on James Bond Radio Adaptations. Those posts have been lost in the forum updates but I was an active member here between 2003 and 2005, coming back briefly in 2010, then returning to more substantial posting in 2012-2013. I was then of course banned for various misdemeanors on my part on 20 April 2013 but happily I was allowed to return after negotiations on 25 June 2014 and I've been posting here regularly again since then. Happily, some of my posts from 2005 still exist along with the years since then, but earlier posts than that have disappeared into the ether sadly.

I just want to use this anniversary occasion to say a very big thank you to all of the moderators and members here and what a pleasure it is to be a member of this great James Bond forum. Thanks for having faith in me at a time when I happened to need it! I look forward to more interesting discussion re James Bond (and other topics) in 2016.
