John Cleese is older than Biden! I don't think JC is ready for four more years of waiting for Bond26?, let alone the full tenure of one or two Bond actors. Besides, we should move forwards and not back to the past . 😂
Realistically, in today's world, we could have a male or female Moneypenny. Either could be seen working from home looking after their kids or helping Bond out unofficially whilst on paternity/maternity leave..
It is just about finding the right balance for today's society/culture, but also with a very healthy dose of make believe and fantasy. It's entertainment and at the end of the day and I personally don't want to have certain things rammed down my throat as part of a tick box exercise in social awareness.
I agree that social awareness or political motivation shouldn't play a part in what the new Moneypenny should be, but at the same time both Bondian tradition and the world of today should be considered. Personally I think Moneypenny could be the next leader of the 00-section because it makes little sense that the leader of MI6 personally follows up a single agent much of the time and of course women's role in professional life has changed since the 1950's. To me at least, those are not political opinions. Others may see it differently.
Its not as if secretaries and personal assistants have gone out the door, the feminazis just don't like it. But thats something the Craig films have done with Moneypenny and it hasn't been a problem.
Lifestyle guide to the products and locations featured in the James Bond films.
Whishaw was a great Q, but it makes absolutely no sense to keep any of the actors from Craig's tenure. A hard no to any actor who was present at James Bond's wake!
I think therecare many good candidates. Right now I think my favourites are Sam Neil as M and Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack, Vigil) as Moneypenny.
I agree with @Number24 just go for a complete break - nothing familiar at all other than character names - maybe it is time for a Q'ute - or no Q again - or no M, that'd be cute indeed - no Moneypenny would sit easily with me, that's a tired stereotype - I think Sam Neill is too old now IMO, but I see the logic - personally, and I have said it before, I would go for Mark Bonnar as M, he was brilliant as shady lawyer Max in GUILT - and I do fancy a female Q, but if it has to be male, Richard Ayoade's comic background might work, although he looks a bit Wishaw-ish
I don't want a complete break. I want new actors. Other things can be done too. Perhaps a Q from outside of Europe - India or the Middle East perhaps? I wouldn't be against a more radical change with Moneypenny. Give her the command of 00-section and M focusing on the bigger picture leading all of MI6. But Bond is still confident enough to flirt with Moneypenny. No,, I don't want a male Moneypenny. I like the Bond -Moneypenny dynamic too much.
I truly think this question is not so important considering Bond has always been the one and only hero of his own adventures. Moneypenny and Q are not present in CR, one of the best movies in the entire franchise. It's the ultimate proof a good James Bond story doesn't need these two characters to be involved, and to be honest, I've never understood why some people complained about their absence in the two first Craig. I obviously love Desmond and Lois for what they brought to the series, but do I feel like there's something missing when I don't see them on screen? Absolutely not. To me, M is the only central piece within MI6.
Good point. I liked the CraigBond MI6 regulars, but they were given to much screentime. This probably happened because the actors were too big stars themselves and maybe because they wanted a sense of a team like in the Mission Impossible and Marvel movies. The only character that has to be in a Bond movie is James Bond himself. But I do enjoy seeing the regulars from time to time, and what Amazon does with those characters interests me.
Of course, I won't complain either if they're back in the next film. I just don't want them to be big part of the story. One can guess Bond will travel around the world to investigate, and I don't see any particular reason why he should have his own Luther Stickell and Benji Dunn with him in the field during the whole mission. A few scenes in Whitehall/Vauxhall will be enough for me.
Good point...and that is one of the problems with casting "names" as the Bond regulars. There is too much temptation to want to give them more screen time. A Bond film is not an ensemble piece, it's a James Bond film. Yes, you have a consistent cast playing the recurring characters like M, Q, Moneypenny, etc., and they should be unique and memorable but their screen time should be minimal, just enough to launch the story forward. If you pick a new Bond actor that you believe needs a bunch of names around them to compensate then you picked the wrong Bond actor. There are so many incredibly talented UK actors out there that I see turning up in supporting roles in television but don't really know who they are who would be outstanding as the Bond regulars. They really need to dip into that pool of talent.
I guess I'm guilty of suggesting actors to play the regulars who are too famous. Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie are at roughly the right level of fame I think.
I agree and I have the same feeling about Monica Bellucci in Sp. Was it absolutely necessary to hire such an actress for a character featured less than seven minutes? They could have given her chance to another italian actress, they didn't specifically need a star for this role.
There's much more chemistry between Craig and actresses like Murino and Marlohe.
Are we complaining about Bellucci now? I thought she was terrific, and the mirror scene was one of only about three genuinely sexy scenes in the whole series for me.
Now I think of it, all featuring Italian actresses. Huh.
Sorry, when it comes to Monica Belluci I have to disagree. 😍 DC did really click with her in those scenes. IMO, she had much more chemistry with DC's Bond than Lea Seydoux who was miscast.
It's not a necessarily a complain. It's about hiring famous actors/actresses for minor roles while those roles are a good opportunity to cast young people who could show their skills in a blockbuster like Bond.
Sure, but, y'know: you might get a Caroline Bliss.
Bond films are prestige productions, I don't think there's any problem with getting quality people in. I want them to feel like luxury filmmaking, that's part of the point of it to me.
Also, regarding getting a young performer: I'm not sure we've ever had a Bond woman who was over 50 apart from her, and I think she showed that's a real shame. Her maturity was part of her sophistication, she was great. Would I have liked her to be in it for longer? Sure, but that's the idea of leaving them wanting more, nothing wrong with that- better than having forgettable bit part performers.
Tonight I saw the excellent thriller "September 5" where Leonie Benech played one of the leads. Earlier I've seen her in the very good TV series "Babylon Berlin" and "Around the world in 80 days". She 's also been in "The Swarm". Her acting is very good and she has screen presence. To my ears her English was perfect in "*Around the world ...", but I wonder if it's acceptable to cast a German as Miss Moneypenny? Regardless I see Moneypenny in her.

Feminists too may also have a problem with some versions of secretaries in visual media, not only the extreme ones.
For those hoping Ben Whishaw will come back as Q, he has voiced Paddington for both of David Heyman's Paddington movies.
Whishaw was a great Q, but it makes absolutely no sense to keep any of the actors from Craig's tenure. A hard no to any actor who was present at James Bond's wake!

Good point about Sam Neil's age.
I think Richard Richard Ayoade would be a great Q in my opinion. He funny, talented and half Norwegian!
A tired stereotype? How about we flip it. Get a female M and a male Moneypenny?

Yes, Bellucci was great.
It would've been a nice callback if Lucia Sciarra (Bellucci) was in a relationship with Felix Leiter in NTTD.
M - Cary Elwes
Q - Robert Glenister
Moneypenny - Sheridan Smith
That would have been fun! 😁
We had that in CR-06.
M-Mansfield was assisted by Villiers, played by Tobias Menzies.
Ok, I have had a think....
M - Idris Elba!
Right age, solid actor. Can play menacing easily.
Q - Tom Felton.
If we stick with an IT whiz style Q, he'd be perfect. Good at put downs and genuinely witty.
R / Dr Molly - Karen Gillen.
I often said she would be a great second turn as Dr Crusher. How about as the redhead head Medic of MI6?
Moneypenny - Nicola Coughlin.
Again a beautiful and brilliant actress. Could run rings round any 007, and could prove solid and tough alongside M.
Minister Of Defence - Kate Winslet.
Oh why not? She would be amazing! Love to see her channel some of Dame Judi's authority as a leading gov figure.
First Sealord Sir Walter Wake - Benedict Cumberbatch.
If we get to sea Bond's Navy connections, Admiral Wake could follow Geoffrey Palmer's Adm Roebuck from TND.
I'd drop Tanner. Not enough material for the character. Q and R would be a good double act instead.
I think Freya Mavor would be fantastic as Moneypenny. I think she can nail that fun, but serious charm personality.

Think Diana Rigg's daughter could be a good shout for Moneypenny .
