Weren't they already working on a Lego Batman game?

There were rumors of Lego Batman and the Official Xbox Magazine all but confirmed it a few months ago; but I've heard nothing of it since. Maybe it was just wishful thinking on their part.

I got a couple of new games today.

Lair for the PS3: An airborne flight combat game where you control a dragon; this one has been getting some really mixed reviews because of its controversial control scheme; the game uses the PS3 control pad's tilt feature to control flight and the face buttons for shooting fire and other features. I found the tilt controls to work well enough but the objectives in each mission are sometimes vague and the graphics are decidedly mixed; up close things look pretty good, but from far away detail suffers badly. I'll have to put more time into it but based on first impressions it's a bit underwhelming and will probably go back once I've played thru it.

Crackdown for the Xbox 360: A GTA style game where you are a futuristic cop with superhuman abilities charged with cleaning up a lawless city. The price on this game was recently dropped and I decided to give it a go I didn't care for the demo when it first debuted and I tend to have a lot of trouble with these sandlot style games but this one looks to be a lot of fun. As the game progresses your character powers up to ridiculous levels and this leads to some really fun over the top gameplay. I already took out a few low level bosses and the exploration and acquisition of power-up orbs scattered across the city is quickly becoming addictive. Nightshooter tried to get me to try this but I wouldn't listen; oh well, better late than never. :D

I recently played Nintendo Wii and PlayStation for the first time. On Nintendo, I played Resident Evil 4 which was impossible as I'm not all that coordinated. It was difficult because not only do I have to aim but I also have to pull out a knife with one of my hands. I got killed pretty easily. :# (I also played a difficult game involving rabbits but I don't remember what it was called.)

I played Land of the Dead on PlayStation, which was great. :D All I needed to do was aim and shoot. It was pretty easy but I had a terrific time. :D

P.S. I've now posted in every forum on this site. {[]

Picked up a bunch of games lately:

Tomb Raider: Anniversary for the 360. Its basically a remake of the first Tomb Raider game using the newer engine. I only played a little bit of the first level - good game but the framerate hiccups a lot so the gameplay isn't as smooth as it could be.

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction for the PS3. The first PS3 game to come along that's really held my interest - fun gameplay with tons of weapons and gadgets and the graphics approach Pixar level quality.

Fantastic Four #2 for the PS3. It was marked down to $20 so I figured I'd take a crack at it; haven't even tried it yet.

Daxter for the PSP. On sale for $20 so I decided to give it a whirl. A really great little platforming game with really nice graphics, gameplay and music. Part of the Jak & Daxter line of games.

I'm also thinking about Timeshift (really enjoyed the demo) or Ace Combat 6 (great demo but I'm not sure if it will hold my interest until the end). Or I may just wait for Mass Effect and let all these other games drop in price. Decisions, decisions. :s

I recently got Heavenly Sword for my Playstation 3. It's a great hack'n'slash title. I've never been one for games that just require button bashing but this one has me hooked. There are 3 different fight stances that alter the way you fight which mixes up gameplay.

Also there are segments that use the sixaxis controller really well. You controll the flight of arrows using aftertouch. It took me a minute or two to get used to this but once I had the hang of it I really enjoyed these segments, so much in fact that I have replayed them a few times.
1- On Her Majesty's Secret Service 2- Casino Royale 3- Licence To Kill 4- Goldeneye 5- From Russia With Love

I played the demo to Heavenly Sword a while ago and while I liked it, I was afraid that the combat would get too repetitive as I'm not a fan of endless button mashing either. I'm glad to hear that you liked it; I'll have to try the full game at some point.

Ratchet and Clank also uses the Sixaxis to good effect in combination with more traditional gamepad controls. The game has some amazing graphics and is actually very well written; really funny too. It's a bit on the easy side but still one of the brighter spots in the PS3's library. I'd urge to to check it out at some point.

I had the same reservations about Heavenly Sword, i feared it would be similar to EA's Lord of the Rings games which I found mind numbing after about an hour. The different fighting stances is a nice touch and the aftertouch arrows are bags of fun, I would recommend it to anyone.

I really want to get Ratchet and Clank at some point, i've not played an of the previous games as i've always got my platform fix from Jak and Daxter. Tools of Destruction looks right up my street though. I'm getting a couple of games over the next few week, Ratchet and Clank is on the shortlist. Others are Call of Duty 4, Haze, Kane and Lynch and Assassins Creed

I never played any of the previous Ratchet & Clank games but was able to get into ToD without any trouble. Haven't tried any of the Jak and Daxter games yet either but I have been playing Daxter for the PSP and that game's lots of fun.

Call of Duty 4 has gotten some great writeups but I've heard that the single player campaign is very short - some have said as little as 5-6 hours on the normal difficulty. Don't know if that's true or not but you may want to check some reviews before making a decision.

Not sure about Kane & Lynch yet but Assassin's Creed keeps looking better and better. I'll be getting that one unless Ubisoft really drops the ball. I'll probably opt for the 360 version though as I prefer that control pad layout.

I traded in some old DVD's and used the money to buy some more games ( not that I've made much progress on the games I already have :s ):

Ace Combat 6 for the 360 - Top Gun style flight game with amazing visuals. The planes, water and cloud effects are photo-realistic and the action is very fast but accessable. The between-level cinematics and storyline are hokey to the point of being embarrassing though.

Time Shift for the 360 - First person shooter with the twist that you can briefly control time by stopping, reversing, or fast-forwarding. A very noisy, violent, frenetic game with lots of frantic action.

Also picked up Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and Jak and Daxter 3 for the PS2 as I really enjoyed the Ratchet and Daxter games for my PS3 and PSP respectively. It helped that they were both on sale for $13 new at Best Buy and I'll be curious to see how they look and play on the PS3.

As if that weren't enough, Assasin's Creed and Blacksite: Area 51 come out this week and Mass Effect is due next week. Brain...overloading...

What other video games do you guys play? Personally, I really enjoy a game called MERCENARIES which is a GTA spin-off. I also played Halo for the first time the other day and loved it.

Yeah Mercenaries was a great game. I play Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Guitar Hero 3, Counter-Strike: Source, and Day of Defeat: Source.

I've spent the past couple of weeks playing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Wii. It's one of the few first person shooters where the gesture based controls actually work well and immerse you in the gameplay most of the time. The game is also full of clever puzzles uses the Wiimote and nunchuck in some pretty unique ways.

Graphically, the game looks very good (16x9 and progressive scan) and has one some of the best art, architecture and level design I've seen in a long while. It doesn't quite compare to the visuals that the 360 and PS3 can pump out, but its still very impressive - really colorful with a with a minimum of the jagged edges that plauge so many Wii games.

The game isn't perfect as there is a lot of backtracking to do from level to level (a staple of the Metroid games). The boss battles can also get pretty long and a little tedious, especially as its easy to lose sight of your weapon pointer in the heat of battle.

Overall though, this is head and shoulders above most of the games on the Wii. It really holds your attention and keeps you coming back for more.

Has anyone tried their hand at the Star Trek: Legacy game? I have it for the 360. The graphics, sound, music, all make for a fantastic game, but I can't quite get a handle on the controls. I'm curious if anyone has any pointers. I can't seem to make it past the third scenario because I am unable to adequately manage my fleet.

I have it; as a confirmed Trekkie I bought it when it was first released but I've never gotten beyond the second mission. As you say, the controls are a handful and resource management plays a big part in the game. It also doesn't help that there aren't any checkpoints in the game and that you can only save your progress at the end of a mission.

I've never been able to come to grips with controls either - I've played that first mission maybe 5 or 6 times but for some reason they just don't sink in like with other games.

Once I get thru Metroid I'm going fire it up again and give it another go.

Let me know how it goes. I gave the game another shot, but I'll put it aside next week to focus my attention on Lego Indiana Jones.

Bought it for my dad as a way to get him into video games. Unfortunately, due to the controls which neither of us could figure out, he was turned off, and so was I.

Being a bit of a railway fan, I enjoy playing the Railroad Tycoon games for the PC. Interesting to experience what it would've been like to be in one of the railway controllers' shoes...
