I do think Toby Stephens plays Graves quite well, even if the character is somewhat tough to buy.

I've no problem with Brozzer's delivery of the line, but I wonder what else they could have made him say.

So...looks like my last Bond film viewing, pre-SPECTRE, is DAD. Just finished watching it, the night before SP in IMAX...
Pros: the first half of the film, really---up to and including the sword fight. Some of Brozzer's best Bond work. I'll even allow the Derek Flint-style meditation/heart rate control. I don't mind Madonna's song, and her cameo works for me.
Cons: most of the 2nd half, which feels constricted in the plastic 'ice palace' setting. CGI para-surf, Car duel on the ice, Icarus body suit, OTT disentigrating plane escape.
Still...it's Bond, and I enjoy it :007)

As I'm getting the entire BluRay set for my birthday in a week {[] I am getting quite exited to watch my bottom ranked Bonds again: DAD, DAF, TND, YOLT etc. - interesting isn't it?
Stephens portrays Graves quite well, the one issue I have with Graves is the character himself.
Yes, he traded diamonds for weapons (as Colonel Moon) and used some of said diamonds for his 2nd sun (Icarus) but I still find unclear why he hates the West.
I also find unclear how he was seeking revenge on the West with Icarus.
In short, my issue with Graves is that to me he's a somewhat underdeveloped villain, but his saving graces (for me anyway) are that 1) Toby Stephens played him well, and 2) he looks tough. So he's definitely not my least fave BV, that's probably Grey's Blofeld, followed by Dominic Greene.

I have not seen this film of late but Moon did speak about having studied in the west and learning western hypocrisy so may be that's where the hatred come from. Also in the view of North Korea, the division of Korea is probably due to the involvement of the "western powers"

What stops me from liking DAD more is mainly the cheesy dialogue and that "Time to face gravity!" line which, although well delivered by Brosnan, is clearly innapproppiate.

Stephens got his direction from the infamous Tamahori who say Graves as an Alan B'stard. The leering, the sneering, the eyerolling and the over emphasis on his plummy accent. They are ham - pure ham
He wanted to make Graves into Bond. He fails as many times he succeeds. A ridiculous cartoon of a villain who stands there rolling off platitudes in a ridiculous space suit

My thoughts exactly..when I last rewatched it I was really enjoying it for most of the first half. I couldn't remember why I thought it was so bad. Then we hit the invisible car and it was rapidly downhill from there. Quite a shame really. I still enjoy bits of it but I will always remember it as the only Bond movie I wanted to hurry up and finish when I saw it at the cinema because I was so bored. The bit on the plane at the end feels like it goes on forever..I was ready to go home when the Ice palace collapsed 8-).
In the spirit of the thread then..
Pros: Its a James Bond movie .Brosnan as Bond. Decent opening sequence, opening credits quite unique, turning up at the hotel in a state like its completely normal ) , Zao was pretty cool, swordfight was entertaining and different, ice palace was a good setting..shame things were falling apart by then.
Cons: Gustav Graves..too young and unconvincing, Jinx..ok in small doses but not very likeable, terrible CGI..those people sniping at the collapsing building in Spectre really need to re-watch this, Invisible car, Madonna..thank God she wasn't allowed a big part, the crappy Robocop fight on the plane.

I actually like that line and scene, it's really stuff like "I don't like cockfights" and "I take it that Mr. Bond has been explaining his Big Bang theory" that feels rather overdone for me. Plus that silly "Time to face gravity!" line.
Other than that, I can sit through the movie and have some fun with it.

Yeah I agree, Brozzer looks very comfortable and formidable in the role.

I dunno, I think Graves is actually quite good as a villain inside a terrible film...
